We have seen the One Millionth Savage 99 before.
Engraving from the Siegfried Rentzschke era.
But we haven't seen the men behind the One Millionth rifle or the Congressional Record.
Until now... anybody recognize the Boardwalk?

Great article. I summarized the article for inclusion in my book. I've sent an email to the NRA requesting photos of the rifle.

O'Connor and Falcon both received special retirement 99's. 1967 & 1969.
Both rifles are 99DL's in .300 savage.
I believe Siegfried Rentzschke was at A.A. White & Co. (engravers) at that time.
Not exactly sure who or where these two were engraved, but I will look to A.A. White first.

That is the period that the PE's were being engraved in Germany. Could they have been done there?

The Indian on the above two specials look very Savage in design while the Indian on the 1960 special does not. I have a very hard time warming to the Millionth rifle for that reason.

Savage...never say "never".

Yea, that's a possibility too.
I wonder whether or not Ron Coburn or JTC have any insight. ??

That was long before Coburn was at Savage, but maybe.. JTC would be a good bet, though if he was there he'd have been very new.

So this celebrated Savage actually marks the high water mark for craftsmanship after which all post-mil 99s were of lesser quality.

Rick, would you send me the photos of the O'Conner and Falcon rifles as attachments to an email. That way I can add them to my files. wyomingsavage1895gmail.com. Thanks, David

Sure can.
Either copy/paste/download the pic you see here, or PM me an email address and I can email one.
Is Shari H. relation to you?

I found a letter (reproduced on the internet) from a family member of O'Connor saying that his rifle was engraved by Gustave Kirchner. It's documented that Kirchner did some of the PE's.
