I have a fair amount of top shelf factory 9 MM self defense ammo.... but after an online search for a friend who is new to handguns I discovered that premium 9 MM ammo is basically gone. In a fit of "I can't believe how much ammo has sold in the past few weeks" I spent 350.00 on various 124 and 147 hollow points.... I'll be loading on a Dillion 550 with Dillion dies. What I remember about reloading 9 MM is follow the OAL carefully and use "just enough" taper crimp.... then do the "plunk test" with the barrels you will be using them in. Am I missing anything? I can shoot in the backyard so I can chase accuracy in addition to reliability easily.... (as long as load testing doesn't attract any zombies)

You got it! For no particular reason except to shoot, I just finished reloading about 500 rounds of 9's, Dillon XL650. Most with 115 wadcutters and about 50 147 HP's. Included about 200 38sp with 148 jacketed hollow points.

Just loaded 100 9mm and 100 .380 with Bayou Bullets. .38 wadcutters for snubbies tomorrow.
Bayou's quality seems high, the shooting will tell for sure.

I got a shipped notification from Bayou that my current order is on the way. Will soon be well stocked on .44 SWCs, .38/357 SWCs, .380 FPs, .38 wadcutters, and 9mm SWCs. Took advantage of their free shipping offer. That and no sales tax is hard to beat!

Henry, 3.0 gr of TiteGroup in the .380's with 95's. I haven't loaded any of these 138 gr WC's yet, likely will use 700X.

The .380s I have coming in are 105 gr. I would like to use Titegroup with them. I'm thinking that 3 gr should do well or do you think that would be a little too hot?
I have loaded their 138 gr .38 wadcutters with 3.5 gr Titegroup. Out of a snubbie barrel I averaged 765 FPS with a S&W M-36 and 831 FPS with a 4" S&W M-19. I wish they offered a heavier wadcutter, like a 148 gr. I tend to like heavy bullets.

I'm no expert on loading .380, but I'd start with less TG with 105's. 3.0 is Hodgdon's max for 100's and those are jacketed.
YMMV

I bought loaded ammo checkers from Dillion before someone suggested just using the actual barrel I was planning to shoot the round in....

I have plenty of once fired 9 MM brass, but wanted to see if Starline had new brass in stock..... Nope just like in the bad old days.... if you need it they say it will be available again 4-10-20.... Apparently, I'm not the only one planning to load 9 MM.

I have about 1200 once fired cases and 3000 124 grain JHPs. The plan is to load all the cases, shoot them up, repeat until I'm out of components. Starting with a Reloader 7 load from the Lyman 5th Edition reloading manual. If that doesn't work, there are plenty of other powders.

LOL, I've been loading the heck out of the 9mm lately, from 90gr Lehigh Defenders, to 115gr XTP's to the big 125gr Barnes TAC-HP's, all with Power Pistol and Longshot powders, I use CCI-550 primers for no other reason than I like the hard face they have, also use the little Lee factory [taper] crimp die to close the mouths on the cases to .479 inch, that will give you the kerplunk all day long.
MagTech, WW, RP and Starline brass have shown no differences in velocities and accuracy at handgun CCW/SD ranges, it all runs well in the two P365 Sigs I have for Wife.

I try to load for each pistol. Seems like 9MM chambers are all over the place, The loads that work great in one suck in the other.

I don't match/target shoot anything, but with Wifes P365's, I can keep 15 rounds in 5-5.5 inches at 20 yards seated braced off a knee or back porch post, that's plenty good enough for me, plus, with mixed brass and bullets from 90 to 125 grains, i'll take it, those little bangers are hard enough to hang on to and shoot accurately.

That's a keeper! I disappoint myself regularly in my old age, still think I should shoot like I was younger.

Age here is 64 and I don't see any kind of front sight well anymore. All my hunting/field hand guns now have either scopes or red dots. All the carry guns now have laser sights on them. I remember the Sig 365 being noticeably more accurate the my 3rd gen Glock 26.... I'll report back after load testing but I'd be surprised if it didn't keep 10 inside 2" at 20 yards.....

10-4 2ndwind, in both my Wifes P365's:
90gr Lehigh Defender 7.5gr power pistol CCI-550 primer Case mouths made sure to be .379" for reliable feeding with Lee factory [taper] crimp die COL 1.125 inch Vel. 1250 fps
A heck of a little defense load that exited 4 metal coffee cans with their plastic lids, plus 4 layers of denim shot lengthways full of water, and plenty accurate too.

222Sako:
My bad. That should have read AA7 not Re7. Thanks for catching that error.
I ended up loading about half of the cases with Win231 and the rest with Universal. Now to see how it all works.

I shoot 115gr. FMJ exclusively in my 9mm's, load them with Unique though it takes a charge more than the starting charge to cycle most semi-autos. I loaded the most recent group with HS-6 because I was able to purchase some at a very advantageous price.

Really it's the only thing that counts; it doesn't matter if it fits some other gauge or not. Apparently that is very true. I did my first batch of powder coat cast for .45 ACP... the Wilson case gauge said fine.... the first time I racked the slide on my Dan Wesson 1911 the round stuck not fully chambered... we are talking trip to the gun smith this weekend level stuck

Never bothered loading 9s before. That was then, this is now. Git everything I need except empty brass, which will magically appear as I empty out my factory stuff, and maybe my Starline backorder gets filled. Bullets seem to be available, as long as you’re not too particular.
What fresh Hell is this?

I picked some estate XTPs last fall before the crunch, as well as a packet of H-FMJs.. digging through a a few different sources including the 2011 handgunners manual thoughtfully provided by another member has revealed some enlightening nuggets, such as "if your machine doesn't get good accuracy with XTPs it provably won't like anything.
but in looking for load data I noticed that for a given projectile weight (say 115gn) the HP load is generally higher than the LRN or FMJ load.
any thoughts as to why? do HPs compress a bit limiting peak pressure as compared to more solid designs?
