Hi everyone,

I've recently moved to a state that restrict magazine capacity to 10 rounds and is a "may issue" state.


Would those above restrictions change your choice in handguns? For example would you still carry/use a 9mm handgun that when only allowed 10 round? Or would you switch to a 45acp?

For me, I have M&P 2.0 with several new unopened 17rd magazines that I can't sell within state (can't buy high capacity mags within the state, either). So I guess I'll eventually have to pull the 10-round mags.

No sir I’d carry a 1911 regardless, but for those who don’t, mag restrictions suck!!

A Glock 30 (.45 ACP) comes standard with 10 round mags, as does the Glock 26 (9mm). The 30 is a bit heavier and bulkier, so if you prefer a .45, but don't mind more weight and chunkiness, it would be a great choice. If not, there's the Glock 26. Whichever you choose, find a way to carry a spare mag on your belt and practice fast reloading.


PS My state is still pretty free, and we can carry whatever capacity mag we choose, but I tend to carry a Glock 26 with 10 round mags, along with a fully loaded 17 round mag on my belt.

Nope I'd carry the standard capacity magazine for whatever pistol I chose!

If 10 rounds are all that was available is carry a Glock 48 just to have something a little slimmer.

^^^^This, plus, I simply wouldn't comply, that said, I went to town today to pick up a revolver from my 'Smith and buy Wife another P365, I packed my LB 45 ACP, had a Wilson 8 round mag with 185gr Barnes' in it with one in the pipe, also had two Chip McCormick 10 rounders in a rear jeans pocket, 10 more rounds of the Barnes' and one mag with +P handloaded 230gr FMJ-FP's, didn't feel a bit under capacity/gunned.

Yep. If I wanted something a little bigger, a G38 in 45 GAP would be great, also. It's a modern 45 Commander. Another good choice is the M&P45C.

With a 9MM one round is all that is needed per BG. If there are two of them and they are close together just shoot directly into the ground between the two and the force of the Miraculous Farce 9MM will evaporate both.
Sometimes just screaming 9MM I have the Miraculous Farce is all that is needed so why worry about magazine capacity?
Now with me and my meager low powered, pitiful, lowly, insignificant 45 Auto I need all it can hold. I have been hoping 50 round drum magazines will be made and will be okayed by all states once they realize what a pitiful caliber it is.

As much as I like my 48 I've settled on the thought 10 is enough. I might look at the Kahr CT series as well.

But, depending on where I lived & it was dangerous enough, I might just turn criminal & continue to carry a big mag & deal with the repercussions later.

Of course laws like that are a big reason for mag change practice drills, &/or carrying 2 guns.

I chose a Glock 30S which is the trim model 30 utilizing the model 36 slide and barrel.
I have never regretted the choice and could never be sold on less caliber for its purpose.

I absolutely loved the idea of the 30S, and bought one early on. Sadly, although I have about a dozen other Glocks that are 100% problem free, that particular gun kept giving me fits with the slide locking back several times before the magazine was empty. I thought it might be a break in issue, so kept shooting for several hundred rounds, but it kept happening at the same rate. Sent it back to Glock, and they sent it back to me telling me to stop pushing my thumb up on the slide lock. Odd that I would do that with this model but no other model. I tried shooting it again, focusing on keeping my thumb away from the slide stop, and it kept doing it. At that point, I threw up my hands and sold it at the very next local gun show. I lost about $100.00 on the deal.

I immediately bought a Glock 30, and had no such issue. Like every other Glock I have or have ever had, it was problem free.

I don’t worry much about restrictions

Just a couple of thoughts...
You really don't have to worry about what you would carry in any restrictive magazine states since those are usually the states that won't give you a carry permit anyways.
Personally, I have a psychological bias against carrying a reduced capacity magazine. In other words, I could carry an 8rd G38 but not a 10rd G19 or 23. I could carry a P239 9mm with 8 rds but not a P226 with 10rds.

If John Moses Browning thought more than 8 rounds was necessary he would have designed it thusly!
