I am at a loss at what rifle this floorplate fits. I got a couple of them out of an estate for a couple pre 64 model 70's I was building at the moment. But not so. The overall length is too short and the spacing for the fore and aft action screws are close but not quite right. As you can see, the floorplate latch is exactly like a normal Mod 70 and there is a small W stamped on the backside. Overall length is 8.25" and action screw holes are about 7 3/8" Any ideas what it fits?

I might sell them but I've got to know what they fit first.
Thanks
Phil

M70 - post 64, and most likely something circa '2000. Hole spacing for pre-64s is different that post 64s... Close, but not quite... smile

As Redneck said, looks like post-64 but screw spacing sounds a bit off. On a short action should be right about 7 inches and a La is 7&5/8 inches, that is center to center. Is your measurement center to center?

EEK - I misread his post (too big a hurry) and didn't catch the "7 3/8"" bit... That's a weird spacing.. Pre-64s are 7.5" (I have on3 here and checked to make sure) and the post 64s are 7 5/8".

The "W" on the underside is not normally there, or that style, on the Win hardware - nor is it that size on the Williams' stuff.. And the OAL of the three I have in stock are all 8.5"...

Hmmmmm.

Is it possible that it fits a Montana Rifles Model 1999? Some of their short actions, say for the WSM cartridges, were a bit longer than the Winchester short actions, but still not as long as a long action. I've got a M1999 in 7WSM at home that I'll try to measure when I get home tonight.

A Remington 700 action screw spacing is 7 3/8” I think. Could it be an aftermarket for a Rem 700?

I checked my Montana Rifle Company 1999 last night and the hole spacing is right on at 7.00 inches apart. This is for what I would call an "intermediate" length action. This one is for a 7WSM chambered rifle. I'm not sure how much longer a long or magnum action might be. So at 7 3/8, it might be for one of those. Sorry I wasn't any help.

I've got a Rem 700 somewhere, I'll pull it out and see if the floorplate might fit. I appreciate all the help offered.

One thing to consider, the floorplate'/bottom metal is not parallel to the action axis so you cannot measure center distance directly form the bottom metal, you actually have to measure between on solid point to one off in space, if you get what i mean.
