I'm trying to get the guy I buy my cast bullets from to start doing .41's. He has a good quality coated bullet at very good prices. The ones I buy are a 15-16 BHN. Would there be any interest here if he bought 41 molds, and what grain and type would you be most likely to use?

Since i cast my own maybe none .

But i think that the tried and true 210 grain might be a hit.

I know i have read that some have shot bullets heavier but i have no idea.

I have molds from 220 grain to 280 in different configurations. I have shot cast bullets from 215 grain SWCs to the behemoth Penn 295 grain truncated cone. All have shot well in various 41s I've had.

If your bullet supplier had a 210-220 grain SWC and a heavy bullet like a 265-270 grain wide flat nose or wide long nose profile. Better yet would be both those with a hollow point option and he would have the 41 magnum pretty well covered. Both NOE and Mihec molds offer molds that can cast either solid or hollow point bullets with just a change of nose pins.

I like heavy bullets in an given handgun chambering. I shoot a lot of 220 grain SWC in my 41 for practice but carry the heavier bullets when I'm afield. I practice with them but not as much as with the 220 grains. Most 41 shooters looking for a practice bullet are most likely going to want something in the 210-220 grain range. Having a good heavy bullet in his lineup wouldn't be a bad idea but realistically he won't sell as many as he will of the lighter bullets. IMHO.

Like plainsman, I cast my own so it has been a few years since I bought commercially cast bullets. Usually just to fill the void while I waited on a mold. Good luck.

I shoot mostly 215 gr swc for practice. I have thought that a 220-230 gr bullet with a wide meplat would be nice. Then I could practice and hunt with the same bullet.

I've been shooting a 41 magnum since 1967 & my most used bullet has been a 230 gr Keith style, cast from a Saeco mold. I've taken deer, elk, bear & antelope with it. I also like a 250 gr LBT & have taken elk with it. In the last few years I've became fond of a Miha 217 gr HP & took a muley at 88 yds with it, one shot & down. It's a great bullet for medium, big game.

Having been down the "30-06 is versitile because it handles bullets from 100-220 grains" nonsense with handguns, its important to have a single compromise bullet that will run from spitball to firebreathing, or better yet a single load (with a single bullet) that will perform as a target load on Sunday to a hunting load the next weekend.

A Keith 224-235 grain bullet at 1000-1100 fps. will generally do all thats done out of a 41 Mag. on paper or on meat. Sub a LFN LBT shape if you believe in that route.

If you have the wallet to shoot stouter loads and/or jacketed bullets for your one load, then proceed on.

There is something consistent, confidence inspiring of having thousands of that single load and its ability from near to far, target to game ability. It gets even better if you can make it work in another 41 Mag, maybe another...

I also cast my own. 170s, 210s, and 250s.

210s are pretty much standard fodder in the 41. You can find really great 210 gr grain bullets in cast and jacketed all over the place. Heavier weights are harder to find, but are available in high quality hunting bullets.

A market void seems to exist in the light weights for the 41 mag. An entrepreneur might well find a market niche available there to fill.

You have a recomendation for a good source for 210 RNFP in a pretty hard coated bullet?

Second choice would be Berry's plated.

Then Missouri Bullets 215 gr Keith style.

And Badman Bullets 215 gr RNFP polymer coated

A lighter (180-200 gr) bullet does fit a niche. Something like a copper-plated swaged (like Berrys) HP would be good. It would make a good plinker and a good defense round. Accuracy wise, my favorite bullet is the now long-gone 180 gr, Speer Gold Dot, originally for the 41 AE. It seemed to shoot great out of everything, though a bit violent terminally with full-house loads.

I use their 170 cast hollow point, just wish I could find it in a coated version.

I'm loading 170 gr cast semi-wadcutters from Penn Bullets tomorrow with Unique for practice in my 41 Mag Ruger Bisley Hunter. No cannelure/crimp groove with this bullet, so clearly would prefer a bullet designed for the task, either coated or not...why I'm looking at GT.

I really like their bullets, and John is a great guy to deal with. His prices are very fair and he makes a great bullet.

I am trying to get another caster that I deal with to buy the molds for a light weight 41 bullet, he just needs the commitment for 10K to justify the initial cost for the molds. He does coated stuff. Check out CKB Bullets, I love his other stuff, he just hasn't jumped into the 41 market because there is so few of us.

In a coated lighter weight (170-180 gr) I'd be in for a thousand with the right bullet. There are a plethora of suppliers that are doing coated in the 210-230 gr range.
