saw a video of this and thought I'd enjoy it

told my wife about it and she wants to do it with me

the hobby is magnet fishing

trolling the bottom of popular water access areas for lures, tools, knives, whatever

bought a 500lb magnet (who knows what that means) and a 65 foot length of rope for both of us. When the weather gets a bit better we're going to spend a day of social distancing doing it.

anyone else do this? any tips for how to not get your magnet stuck on a log at the bottom?

Don’t get cut by anything jagged.

Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

In order to maintain a safe distance from pathogens.............you decide to spend your time gathering rusty, slime covered hunks of sharp metal from the bottom of a fish schit covered cespool?

Good plan.

I know a kid here in town that will snorkel in the lake and get all sorts of lures at the end of the season after the tourists clear. They all fish in the same rock pile so it’s an easy task.

Never fished with a magnet, but I used to go to popular lakes on the first weekday morning after a holiday like Memorial Day and just walk around the shore as I fished. Found many lures, knives, multi-tools, etc. just lying there. Once came a cross an entire tackle box. A couple of rods and reels. A decent pair of Nikon binoculars. An H&R .22 revolver.

When I was a kid in Show Low, AZ they drained Show Low lake. I went out there when the water was about 20' down and pulled lots of stuff out of the rocks that had previously been submerged, including a few hundred pounds of aluminum cans.

doing well, I don't think it was the virus - no signs of ill effects and everyone in the household is healthy.

thanks for asking

My brother in law just started doing this. I've considered it in the past. Where did you buy your magnet?

A couple friends of mine have been doing that for years. Found hundreds of pounds weights. melt them down and make their own smaller weights.

I've always wondered...if your magnet will hold 500 pounds, howinhell do you pry something off of it?

BluMtn, they claim they brought up lead weights? Magnets don't attract lead.

I got my wife a 260lb magnet. Maybe I made a mistake buying a 500lb one. I didn't figure it would really haul up to 500 pounds out of a lake. Its the size of a hockey puck

You caught that too?

Perhaps the magnet was attracted to that itty bitty steel fishhook and the three ounce weight was lifted incidentally???? Yeah, snicker, snicker, that's the ticket!

Anybody remember what TV show/movie that last came from? I do not.
