Is a Henry my best option on a lever 22mag that currently available? Price and dependability being taken into consideration as well. Thanks

Currently available or new?

If I was shopping for an accurate lever gun in 22 mag I would buy an old Marlin 57M. I owned one at one time and literally cleaned the squirrels off my property with it with zero misses. I eventually sold it for a lack of need.

if the henry 22wmr shoots and functions like their LR model it is a good gun. there are so many companies jumping back into the 22wmr that its hard to keep track. Lever guns shrinks the field a lot. have to second FB2's vote for the marlin though.

I have a Winchester 9422 mag has a 2x7 Leupold rimfire. It keeps Winchester 40 gr HP around 1" for 5 shots. Up until a couple years ago you could only use a rimfire or a shotgun at night for coyotes and fox. Out to 75 yards it accounted for a bunch of coyotes and fox. It's also shot a couple 100 beaver with head shots on damage permits.

I bought a new 94/22 Magnum in 1998 and a quantity of Winchester 40 grain jacketed HP's at that time. This combination has proven very effective for needs that I intended for this cartridge and are normally under 50 yards (iron sights). I mention the 94/22M as an option because I see several at gunshows I attend, many priced high but as well more than a few deals.

I had a Marlin 1894 .22mag.. Sold it because it would only shoot 3 shots into a snuff can at 50 yards.. Other might do well.. That one sure was a looser.. Now I picked up a WW94 .22mag. to go with the .22LR.. Beautiful weapon.. Accurate, smooth, I love it.. Pricey, but we only live once..

I'd rather have an old Marlin 57 than any Henry that I've ever seen.

I’d rather have just about any other rifle then a damn Henry.
My old Marlin bolt action tube fed model is one of the most accurate.22 mag rifles I’ve ever owned. Bar none.

Me too!

Rugged, reliable, and dependable, that could be the epitaph of the tube-fed Marlin rimfire bolt guns.

One of the last rifles that I would ever divest myself of would be my 983S. It does so many things and does them so well.

My old detachable mag. Marlin 882 is the most accurate .22 mag. I've ever owned and I've had a dozen of various makes and models over the years. I have no clue why anyone would think a tube mag hanging off the barrel to fugg with harmonics would be more accurate.

I will have to say I bought a Marlin bolt, just be fore getting the 1894M, it has a magazine tube, and was deadly accurate.. I thought it was awesome, but a bit ugly so I traded for the 1894 M, huge mistake on my part.. I also have a CZ .22mag. that is very accurate, but I think the Marlin bolt was more accurate..

The guys on here that trash a Henry make no sense to me. Does the Henry soot like an Anschutz? Not even close. It is minute of squirrel head at 40 yards? Mine is with a Redfield 6x on top. I did try six or seven different types of ammo to figure out what it liked. 30gr hyper velocity 22mag loads patterned like a good turkey load. 40-50 gr standard velocity stuff shot well. Now my Henry has the octagon barrel so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Mine has never had any feeding issue and it shoots as well as I expect it to.

i had a henry 22m lever and it was slick and sweet. carried nice and never failed to fire or extract.

minute of squirrel at 10 ft ----maybe. lets say 8 of 10.

40 ft about 2 of 10 to hit a pop can. there may have been a brand or wt of ammo i missed but i doubt it.

i would buy another, but only after shooting it.

Jrg 80: I have a mint perfect Winchester 94/22 Magnum for sale - it is in the $875.00 range (plus expenses!).
I decided not to scope this Rifle and then I decided not to shoot it - just to valuable to take afield here in Montana.
This is the checkered straight grip model (same as the 94/22 XTR).
Good luck in your search.

I have had a Winchester 255 22 mag for about 40 years. Not the most reliable gun if the action is worked slowly but fine if worked relatively quickly. The gun just flat out shoots with just about any ammo. Not the easiest gun to find now but they show up on gunbroker once in awhile.

I got a henry lever 22 magnum recently. It's my first lever action rifle. It has a williams peep sight on it and it's very accurate. The price was right and I like it.
