Anyone hunted Washington State area “49 Degrees North” for black bears?

It was my 4th choice, and I was drawn for it.

Really don’t know too much about the area except the land owned by the timber companies near NorthPort and the Canadian border.

Any input would help.

With the virus and work slowed down, I may actually get to go and hunt for a week or two.

That's what I've been told.

I'll do a few weekend scouting trips between now and then.

David,
I drew spring bear in Huckleberry unit 121 just west of 49 North. Lots of bears in both units. I’m told the bears don’t get on the move much until deer start dropping fawns mid-May to early June. I’m working on my new house in 121 and plan to do a little more scouting in a week or so when more snow is off the back roads. Happy Trails

Didn't say it was good, there are folks that know the unit very well. The owner, Dale, is straight garbage... Wouldn't give him a dime...

Most Federal and State areas are now inaccessible either by snow or edict. Would advise not wandering across the border for any reason/excuse.

What does this have to do with the OP question?

Stay away from the border if you ever get off your couch.

Since you are such a fount of wisdom, you would know that GMU is nowhere close to the border. Every time I see one of your posts it’s utter nonsense. You should stop drinking before you pound your keyboard. Where is your dumbazz located anyway?

Must be tough for you...not being able to get your manbun tightened.

You can probably still get yourself some birkenstocks online.

Doubting you have ever got within 50 miles of a bear...even in your Prius. BTW, stupidfk...Northport is "near" the Canadian border.

Yes, but Northport is 50 miles north of GMU 117, 49 Degrees North.

I am a member of HuntWa but I have not seen that it is such a terrible forum. What is it that offends you about that forum? I find 24 Hour Campfire to have many more Aholes actually.

P.S. to David Walter, I have not hunted 49 Degrees but I have not quite a bit of spring bear hunting (mostly in the Blue Mountains, both in WA and Oregon) and I would basically say to find open grassy areas that you can glass and hunt those. Their eye sight is better than many give them credit for and of course their sense of smell is fantastic so watch the wind. Good luck. I sure miss that area and hunting spring bear. They have been my favorite hunts.

Looks like you might not have to worry about it Dave, just saw where WDFW cancelled turkey and bear hunts, may open if conditions get better. Hopefully they restore you points if they keep it closed. What a crock of shiit.

Yeah, I got the email. I think I’ll just ask for my points back (they said ask and they’ll give them back) and spend the time practicing more shots at 600+

I’ll second the statement that their eyesight is better than some claim. My wife and I were doing a trail run in the Washington cascades last summer and I spotted a bear down the hill from us, probably a half mile away. Were admiring how big he looked even from that distance and he looked up hill at us and boogied. It was obvious by his behavior that he saw us.

Best of luck DW hope you can get out after them. I’m supposed to hunt in Oregon and that is up in the air.

The email I got shut down Hunt codes 7000-7004 which did not include Huckleberry unit. I may call and get my points back, only had 3....

Whoops! Just got an email adding hunt code 7005 Huckleberry to the closure list. Won’t be opening tomorrow at all.

Happy Trails

I think the latest email indicated that the situation will be reevaluated April 9th and one can get points reinstated at some point after a decision is made. I’m going to hang onto my permit until the season final decision is made. If it rolls past May 15th, I might punt. I only would like points back since I bought the non-refundable combo tag and want fall bear. Happy Trails

Since our Guv’ announced today that the stay at home order is extended to May 4th, looking grim....
