No such thing as large/small frame 20 or 16 ga. Model 12s. They are the same size.

When the 16s went to 2 3/4” chambers, they enlarged the
loading port and rounded its corners. Same size action.

I have owned both size frames at the same time and there is a difference in size and weight of them. so say anything you want about it you are wrong.

Then it shouldn’t be all that difficult for you to find one of each for sale and prove it.

All available resources say the 20 and 16 were on the same frame.

This is correct.

Would be interesting to see the barrel markings...and a close up of the receiver, see how well it was polished....and it appears to be longer than 26 inches....in addition the green fluorescent bead does nothing for the price.....

Records also say until around 1927 or so they would have been 2 9/16 short chambered....

OT. The 1915 date surprises me. Anyone know what year Winchester changed to 2 3/4 inch and if it was in all gauges.

Phil Bourjaily is usually spot on....

Other resources say the same....Haven't looked for the other gauges....

I have also read the very first Model 12 16gauges 2 3/4inch shotguns, also had the receiver marked 2 3/4inch....however, I have never seen one.....

Well I purchased a Model 2 in 16 gauge from the O0 and was well satisfied. Good gun, good price! Seems like things are getting out of kilter here :-)

Not really....just questioning the description, and quality of the redo....if the port hasn't been opened on a second year manufactured Model 12 16 gauge....then 2 3/4inch shells are not going to eject reliably....second year guns were also 2 9/16 chambered barrels.....

I've bought nice original examples for less....although a good Model 12 for that price is a better than good shotgun....

Addition: Possibility exists that at sometime in the distant past, this shotgun was sent back to Winchester for a new barrel and the port modification.....and if the receiver and barrel SN's match it would be likely....but the buyers here don't know that....an additional pic of the barrel markings would also answer some other questions....

As I stated in the description "restored", the gun was in this condition when I purchased it a dozen years ago. Whoever did the work was not an amateur, the finish is beautiful. I can only assume
the chamber was lengthen and the barrel stamped 2 3/4 prior to being reblued. (Winchester custom shop may have done it),and it is a 26" barrel battue,(I was a machinist for 45 years, I can read a tape).

I’m no longer interested and for one main reason.

And while you say the work is beautiful....close up pics would confirm it for those looking from a distance....and solves any possible issues later on....admittedly from a distance it does look pretty good....Winchester Custom shop “may” have done it....They either did or didn’t....

However, for those that may be.....they now know the chamber was lengthened and stamped....

I said it appears longer....not that you couldn’t measure.

I would not waste my time to prove anything to you, I really don't care what you think.

More forum BS from those who state a fact and then can’t or don’t want to back it up.

If I’m wrong, I’ll be the first to say so. Till then, all you have is I don’t care.....which may be your best case position...

In addition....prove it to all the others that disagree with you....you don’t want to verify it to anyone, let alone me....funny that....

Hey Guys, I don't know or really care about the receiver size of model 12's. If you want to continue your discussion on this subject, PM each other.

I just want to thin the herd a little and try to sell a nice model12 16ga.-----------thanks
