Interested in others' opinions on your "go to" mid power riflescope for use with a BDC holdover reticle and without dialing. I've run VX-3is for a while, and never had an issue- but Leupold seems to hate the idea of BDC reticles, and has apparently eliminated them from both the 2-8 and now also the 3.5-10. Philippine-origin Vortexes seem to have good clarity for the money, but I've had multiple POI changes when checking zero after they've done nothing but sit in the safe. Their Japanese Razors have been good, but are pretty spendy.

Has anyone had negative experiences with Burris Fullfields? Just put together a truck gun type setup with the 2-7, and was quite impressed with optical quality. Run 4 or 5 ranges with it so far without any issues holding zero etc. They say that you get what you pay for, but this thing is checking all the boxes at a scant $160 so far.

Vortex razor LH 2-10 can be found pretty cheap 350-400 and the clarity is amazing. A year ago they were $700. Since the new razor came out this year they are blowing out the razor LH. They blow away anything in the $500 below category. I have one onto of my Barrett fieldcraft. I thought the clarity was better than my VX5 HD.

The Fullfield II is the most dependable set and forget variable scope I have used. I have never had to send one in for repair. They hold zero and gather enough light to be able to see past the time I am going to be shooting.. That's what I need.

Exactly. I see a lot of people who share this sentiment, and this is so far exactly the experience I've had. Might be replacing some of the current inventory with these.

I've never had a Fullfield II, but I've heard enough positive talk from people I trust that I'd give it try if it had the features I was looking for.

To the op, if you like that 2-7, you'll love the 3-9x40 with ballistic plex reticle. I've tried the 2-7 and I hated it. I've never had a problem with the 3-9x40. They are a much more forgiving rifle scope than the 2-7.... Try one, you'll see what I'm talking about..

I use a bunch of them myself. The 2x7 and 3x9’s are a danged steal if you’re looking for a decent reticle to make longer shots. No issue with holding zero either.

Dang guys, these are some sweet looking rigs! I guess, with what appears to be a consensus, let me rephrase the original question more directly- can anyone think of a good reason to go with one of the more expensive options over a Fullfield? I think I can see a very slight advantage in optical clarity in my VX-3i, but that's about it...

I am not a stock crawler, so don't care too much for the Burris. The eye relief is much better on a Redfield Revolution or Leupold VX-1, 2, I, II etc. Learning to shoot up to 400 yds using a duplex reticle is not hard. Just use the old 6" from the crosshair to the top of the bottom post at 100 yds trick.

Anyone have experience with the Fullfield II 4.5x14? It looks like a steal at the going prices if it reviews as well as the 3x9.

Looking at a set & forget w/holdover reticle for .223 with a little more X's than the 3x9 (which I have and like).

I have a FFII that I bought used on a 308. I'm having some trouble seeing the crosshairs clearly but that could be an issue with my glasses prescription. Groups are good, the zero stays put, and any windage or elevation changes show up immediately. Performance is like what Leupold used to be but less expensive.

I had two of them - one a Burris and the other was labeled Pentax but it was nothing more than a rebadged Burris. They both worked fine but the 4.5-14x is a MUCH more bulky scope than the 3-9x version. IMO, the extra magnification didn't offer that much of an advantage, whereas I found the adjustable objective to be the more useful feature.

Dumb question, but have you adjusted the eye piece to focus the reticle?

For a 223, id be looking specifically at the Burris MSR 223 rifle scope, if i were in your shoes.
