My Dazy dog went West yesterday. 14 years of fun ,love and laughter. She was a clown and a pain in the ass sometimes. If I live another 20 years I will still grieve.
Next time I am getting a goldfish.
RIP my sweet sweet girl.

we still have her sister , a yellow. so far she hasn't shown any depression. have to love her up.
thanks for all the sympathy and all that have gone through this have my heart felt sympathy in return.
I have lost to many in the last 70 years I don't think I want to deal with it anymore. gold fish or a tortoise look good right now.

she was as smooth as silk. water slid off her like a duck. she went through life retrieving things, neighbors shoes, toys, baby turkeys, grouse, and ducks. one time even a baby squirrel.
never any damage. softest mouth I ever saw.

Thats a unique talent to have such a soft mouth. Not very common in dogs. good looking dog and thanks for sharing your memories on here.

Maybe pick up a well vetted adoption . I picked up a German Shepard at a local rescue years ago when my GSP died at 13.

I'm so sorry to read this. These beautiful creatures are really the best people.

When my Joe went a friend told me that the reason it hurt so much was because they love so much.

I'm so sorry about your sweetie. Her pics are beautiful. We've had labs for years and one never forgets. 14 years is a very good run for a lab, probably any dog. My wife and I decided to get one more and she is a keeper, a beatiful black lab. Samantha (Sam) is 6 months old and we love her to pieces.
It is a sad time, glad you shared life together.

Both of these girls were rescue dogs.
We had a neighbor that was bipolar batshit crazy ,whose wife had cancer. They got the pups for the kids. Her idea. He fed them mouldy bread and carrot pulp from juicing.
They were stunted by diet I think. He would run them 10 miles while he was in the car .
She died and he chased off his son at 12 years old.
We had watched the dogs and kids during her cancer treatments.
The boy came up before he left and asked if we wanted the dogs for 400 each.
I had just lost my job so my wife said we couldn't pay that much.
He returned and said 100 each. We bought them.
Easy had fallen out of the back of their pickup at about 2 years old, and broke her right back let in 6 places.
Doc put in line and a rod to straighten it, said if it got bent to bring her in and get it straightened.
If course it got bent and neighbor refused to take her in and refused us taking her. Said it's just a dog.
The rest of her life you could track her by the back tracks almost on top of each other.
Here where we live the river is 300 ft across.
One day she jumped a buck on the west bank. It jumped in and headed east.
I couldn't see easy until I got to the edge of the river.
There she was , chasing that buck up stream almost to the other shore.
The buck got out , shook off, looked back as if to st " crazy dog" and ran off. Easy never missed a stroke.
Just turned around and swam back. I thought I would lose her ,but nothing I could do.
It was 7 degrees and as soon as she got out she turned white!
Oh the memories!

Always hurts, losing a good dog like that.

Still missing my Clark boy from last spring. I think all of us here understand how tough it is to lose a dog.

Condolences.

Dazy's sister, the yellow In one of the pictures has always been the more timid.
now that Dazy is gone Rosie is taking on a more aggressive attitude. the neighbor came over to see if we needed anything and she about tore down the house to be with me outside talking.
wife locked her in the bedroom and she barked and growled the whole time. After I came in she just about smothered me making sure I was ok. I guess she realizes she is alone as our protectors now. Dog's! what would the world be like without them?

if I live to be 1000 years old I will never understand how a person could bring themselves to abuse a dog, let alone a puppy.
to all thanks for the thoughts. I wish I could have shared Dazy with you all while she was alive. she did enrich all that knew her.
my neighbor brought up his tractor to dig and he was crying as hard as I was.

my sentiments exactly! so why do I find myself looking at puppy ad's in the paper. same gene as the one that makes me look at the gun adds I guess.
I am starting to worry about Rosie, Dazy's sister. she shows signs of being a little depressed. hard to know what to do, I know she won't accept a puppy.
maybe i'll have to break lockdown and take her to the ponds to chase rats and ducks.

I wrestled with this too. At 66, I decided to get one more lab and did so. Sam (Samantha) is a terrific British Lab, she really lifted up my wife and I and we're thrilled to have her. She is seven months old and we love her to pieces. She is training on birds and guns right now, very enthusiastic and of course - loves to work with the birds.
Yeah, I get it about struggling with saying goodby. I try to focus on all the time we did share with one another.
Deerstalker, I hope your fond memories of Dazy brings you some peace.

Took Rosie Dazy's sister out for a run in the wildlife preserve just below the house today. She looked in all the places Dazy used to hide.
Broke my heart watching her. Finally she just got on a path and trotted along with her head low and ears and tail down.
She is so deaf now I have to whistle loud to get her attention and hand signals to get her to come or go on.
She seems to be going downhill fast . Going to be bad . She has always been mommas dog.

sorry for your loss. I hope time is easing the pain. I lost a great dog last fall to an aggressive cancer. I thought he would be around past 12, but at 10.5 years old, cancer took him in about 4 months.. It has been easier having a young one. I had hoped they would hunt together for a few seasons, but it was only one hunt that they made it together on. Your pictures are a joy to look at though, and your dogs look very happy. I am glad you got the 14 years that you did!

God bless you Deerstalker. I still miss the Australian Shepherd I lost about 6 years ago. A smart and caring dog. I've said it before and so have others, I hope to be the man my dog thinks I am. Get a pup and start healing. I finally got one four years ago and he is lying at me right side now. Only thing between us is a bit of air and my SIG P-220. I would wear the SIG to be if I could figure out how to comfortably do so. And Harry S. Truman lies in his dog bed next to me. Be Well friend, Rustyzipper.

it is heartening to hear from so many other guy's that have been owned by a Dog. am not trying to be flippant in any way.
we seem to give our hearts to them because they are so unconditional. We still have Dazy's sister so the missing Dazy is kind of mixed. the two were inseparable and I just expect to see Dazy next to Rosie.
At 14 I know Rosie isn't going to be around to much longer and that tempers my desire to get a pup. she has never given pups the time of day and don't think she would like it if we brought one around.
at this point it's going to be a race between Rosie and me to see who goes west and meets up with Dazy first.
