I know the feeling. Chopping stuff for salad. A piece of fingernail & a finger tip disappeared. While I was getting a bandaide, wife found fingernail.

During the meal I mentioned it was good that she found the nail, she agreed.

Then I asked; wonder who got the finger tip? Wife said she'd rather not talk about it, & told me to STFU.

Its gonna hurt later I bet.

Actually glad the nail slowed the knife down a bit. Probably would have hit bone otherwise.

I'm acquainted with the dangers that even just a few milliseconds of stupidity with a sharp knife can do for a guy. Damn lucky I still have the use of my left thumb.

Let that Wild Turkey do its thing, Jim! But leave the knife somewhere out of sight. wink

You know, those are some awfully pretty hands for someone that has a farm. I'm barely on tools these days and my hands look far worse beat up. Are you sure your not a Russian bot? Just sayin.

Yep. Used to be we would scrape some tar of and injured pine tree. Cure anything you got in that sucker other than maybe tetanus. Probably that too.

Looks like what I did to mine about ten years old chopping long hard ears with a machete into short pieces of dried field corn for grandad to put in the feed trough for his Jersey, Elsie while milking.

Ooo, I know! Once I split a nail lengthwise for most of its length. I cut a strip of that clear plastic bombproof packaging, hit the gap with alcohol (ow!), then superglued the strip on the nail. Basically glued it down, put clear polish over the top, trimmed it up pretty, and kept it taped. Held for five whole days, then all I had to do was touch up the superglue and squish it back down again, recoat, keep it taped. Took about three weeks for it to grow away, but it worked pretty good. It was just the ring finger on my left hand, but better than snagging that suckah.

Well...in a perverse way I am glad to see the knife was effective, since I am building a couple knives of that style lol

Sorry Jim, I bet that hurts like a sumbitch.

Try taking the fingertip off with a circular saw. A rafter I was cutting shifted on the horses and jerked my off hand index finger into the blade. Lost the entire pad of my trigger finger, from the first joint to just under the fingernail. They told me if I had cut deeper and damaged the stem cells of the nail bed, it wouldn’t have grown back.

Wasn’t bad, til the doc says, there’s nothing to stitch, and wraps it up with gauze. Went to change the dressing the next day, gauze and open wounds do not mix. Stuff was dried into the meat of my finger, wife had to pick it loose and get the embedded fibers with tweezers. Cutting it was fairly painless. Poking to make sure I missed the bone and wrapping it up hurt some. Getting that results of that piss poor doctors handiwork out of the meat and nerves of my finger was excruciating. Guess the a-hole never heard of non stick dressings and whatnot. I had, and knew better, but for whatever reason, did not change it out immediately when I got home.

Dip it in rubbing alcohol, smear with Neosporin, wrap one bandaid for non stick effect. Then wrap with scotch 33 electrical tape, and get back to work!

I spent a significant portion of my career w/ drillers and beaker scum in remote regions from pole to pole. I can honestly say that saving traumatized digits and extremities, days away from a real medical facility, are my professional Van Goghs. Working folks have a weird tendancy to chop and crush their parts.

Big Jimbo,

Just checking in on how your worker’s comp claim is coming along.

Word is the on-line filing system is very slow in the big cities.

How’s the progress up there on the Rez?

🍐 sent for your pain...😬😎
