Bought a few of these Sig M400 AR’s several years ago for this type of social event.

Always thought they’d just stay dormant...NOT!

Back when weight didn't mean anything to me I was old school about such matters. I tweaked some pieces around on a lathe then screwed them together into this. But I like lighter items these days.

FALs are cool, but man they're heavy.
Like the little FNC better

Pops had Belgian Para short, Para long and the reg.
Sold two, dunno what one he kept.
Got a DSA and an Argi too. I shot the latter and it did fine.

Good deal.

Lot of good men wielded a FAL. The history alone of such a weapon is enough to cause a person to admire the physical form. Maybe even take a couple steps back.

One of my riding "companions", 458 SOCOM. For when a 5.56/223 just isn't enough! In for some cleaning, and caressing, this morning after a range session a while back.

Mines a floorboard heater. Lives with the snap top tool box under the back seat with four ASC 20 rounders full of 77 TMKs in the door pocket. Gets called into service about once a week or so for roadside pork emergency duty or the occasional coyote. [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Beaver10;
Top of the morning to you sir, I hope that other than it being chilly and our world has turned upside down that this finds you and yours as well as can be.

Funny you should mention canoe incidents as they're quite common up here across the medicine line as of late.

As you may or may not know, the old Hudson's Bay Fur Brigade trail went down through our Okanagan Valley on the spring run down to Fort Vancouver on the Columbia.

Although I was in a canoe made of modern materials, in a recent reenactment I myself capsized the canoe and lost all our personal firearms. Of course the firearms were there only to add an air of authenticity to the reenactment and for no other purpose.

As well, I should add that the bundle of furs lost in the same incident were not real fur as that would be cruel.... wink

Anyways, this Canuck is more than a wee bit green with envy for my friends south of the medicine line who are able to freely purchase and shoot AR variants. It's one of the many restrictions put upon us subjects of Mr. Dressup's Imperial Fleet - er I mean Federal Government...

All the best to you my cyber friend and stay well.

Dwayne

All I’ve gots in the truck is a Contender carbine in 22 Hornet and a 357 S&W for “social distance” distances.

Am I outta date or what!

grin Was up late last night reading your thread, had to go to the post office this morning and intercept some kind of damn fed-ex-smart post handoff deal and didn't want to wait for my package til 5pm tonight, getting out of the truck I laughed and thought about this thread.

Threw the package on the hood, pulled some "wallet protector/crackhead reforming tools" from my belt and pockets and took a pic for my old Buddy Beav!

As of now folks in Nevada can keep a loaded hand gun in their vehicle. I suspect our commie Gov and the bleeder demonrat Legislature will try to put and end to this. Gotta love a pistol.

i was going to ask if it was a Ljungmann, but knowing you, I'm betting on a Hakim

AC Code
May 44 production
WW2 Walther 8mm G43
Hitlers " Garand"
All 7#,s match
No import marks.
Stock had been severely molested by previous owner.
That is my work to get it semi original appearing and presentable
Woulda been about a 2200 rifle if the stock wasnt fugged with.
Original front sight hood missing and cleaning rod
Bout 1500 1600 value in the pic.
Original mag alone worth 275 300 ish.

Ya I stole it for 275.......
Aint my job to educate a seller.

The 2 you mention were based off this and the soviet svt 40.
As were chezch vz 58,s and several other mil platforms.
Vz 58 is the apex of the design JMO.
The G43 was based off the SVT intially.
SVT is a supreior weapon and the grandfather of the design.
G43,s had metalurgy issues in the rear cradle area of the receiver.

275 bucks " didnt work" per previous owner.
2 days of me 100% disassembly and cleaning and assembly got it up and running.
Took it out to slumlords.
Ran 10 thru it fast as i could squeeze the trigger.
Next clip started failure to extract and eject.
Had a tiny screw adjustment for extractor tension and retention.
Feild stripped it , tiny spring pops outta extractor.
Fugg.........
We searched for it then had ta roll back to his house get a metal detector to find it.
Gawd.....
I coulda bought a new spring kit for the entire rifle for around 95 bucks.
Between that and the metalurgy issues.
Made the decision.
Was gonna keep it
Take it on a token deer hunt once in awhile.
Then thinking about parts to be found if somethng went south.

Traded it for my Arsenal SLR 100H type 3.
No regrets.....

Some of you gents know how to put together a fine operating battle gun yourself, or you know what to buy off the shelf, maybe making some part changes to improve your AR’s performance and reliability.

I have no such experience on how to build one out, or what aftermarket parts to add.

Here’s my question...I bought 3 Sig M400’s years ago. Two carbines and one shorty....

I went with the Sig M400 because at the time they had pretty good reviews on functionality and above average accuracy. They are pretty accurate and haven’t caused me any repeative malfunctions...Which is good.

With that said...If I wanted to buy a turn-key AR shorty in 5.56 is there a couple manufactures and models you would suggest that make an all around, solid, weapon?

If my Sigs are good to go, I’m happy to keep them....But, if they’ye Junk, my feelings won’t be hurt if there’s a lot better turn-key options available today.

I see these come up for sale from time to time...one day I'll have a moment of weakness and bite .

Love the history on these old guns.

That would be a tough one to part with.

No,...I'm serious. Firearms are something that I've played with. For a while it was FALs, then something else,..then something else.

My safe was full of firearms that I had played with until I was done with them. So I passed a lot of them along.

I didn't disarm myself, however. A particularly reliable Kel-Tec SU-16 resides beside the bed and there's a lightweight AR stuck in a closet somewhere around here.

For recreational shooting, I've come full circle. I've been having a lot of fun playing with a bargain priced semi auto .22 rifle and I've got a hankering for a Henry .22 magnum pump rifle. The next time I find one when I'm knocking around the gun shops it'll probably come home with me.

To show you how boring I am,..a very nice old 4" Ruger Police Service Six stays close most of the time. I've got some more hi-tech handguns. But double action revolvers have been one of my things for a long time. They fit my hand and they hit where they seem like they should.

😎

They aint junk.
Drop a 3pd velocity single stage curved shoe in em.
Or go full blown and do a elftmann.
Put on a VG6 gamma 5.56 comp brake
Gun will run like a horizontal sewing machine needle then.
Will have ta rezero.

Gonna get the aftermarket grip made by FAB defense for em with the thumb mag release and slight grip extension under the slide.
Of course keep the red bakelite grip.
Get an extra mag maybe 2.
It will be GTG.
Something to go along with my commie type 3.

My opinion on ARs these days is, "parts is parts".

You can buy one with the particular features you want,..but the bones of one is going to be as good as the bones of another.

I bought a Bushmaster QRC a while ago just because it had the very light barrel and no sight on the front gas block. (scope is a given for me these days) It tips the scales at a tad under 6 lbs and is bare bones and bargain priced.

It's exactly what I wanted in an AR,..basic and very light.

grin Was up late last night reading your thread, had to go to the post office this morning and intercept some kind of damn fed-ex-smart post handoff deal and didn't want to wait for my package til 5pm tonight, getting out of the truck I laughed and thought about this thread.

Threw the package on the hood, pulled some "wallet protector/crackhead reforming tools" from my belt and pockets and took a pic for my old Buddy Beav!

All that’s missing from your picture is a ultra possessive Healer who loves his truck. Very bad idea touching a man’s truck when a dog is riding shotgun...hint. 😎

i was going to ask if it was a Ljungmann, but knowing you, I'm betting on a Hakim

Rather have a working tool than a collector " my precious type of thing".

I need to educate myself on suppressors...It’s time to put a couple in jail.

Definitely want one for the 22 LR’s. The other can would be on a AR pistol in 5.56.

As you guys are aware, we don't have that option !

So, as bandit closes, to exactly 6'11", throw that heavy pipe wrench for effect n keep the stabber & hacker in case the fugger doesn't go down, or GTF outta my space !!

Brother Beav, a .22 with a can is life changing. I was even more surprised by how well a can worked on the AR pistol, but it still has a bit of a bark to it. The .22? My wife has really good hearing (alas) and she didn't even realize I was shooting in the basement when I first got the can for the 22/45. The fugging magpies still don't know what's hitting them...

We’ll figure it out.

I too need to get some cans rolling in. I won a couple TB 50% off Certs last season, so will start there.

Calling them was at the top of my ToDo list seven Mondays-ago.

grin Was up late last night reading your thread, had to go to the post office this morning and intercept some kind of damn fed-ex-smart post handoff deal and didn't want to wait for my package til 5pm tonight, getting out of the truck I laughed and thought about this thread.

That’s excellent news Brother Remsen! My bride has grown tired of hearing me, and our dog Boot performing our victory dance after I whack a coon in our yard.

A silent kill would allow me and the dog the freedom to celebrate without persecution by our unappreciative critic, who obviously hates the performing arts.

T Inman;
Good evening to you sir, I hope that all things considered that this finds you doing well.

Now in a sea of AR's with the occasional FNFAL and AK thrown in, none of which we Canucks can carry about freely, I finally see a post with something that'd be considered acceptable on this side of the medicine line.

Perhaps I can bestow honorary Canuck status on you for your post, eh? wink

We Canucks likes our pump guns...

All the best to you sir, stay well.

I approve of your message. When I grow up I just might get me one of those .45-120 things.

i was going to ask if it was a Ljungmann, but knowing you, I'm betting on a Hakim

Rather have a working tool than a collector " my precious type of thing".

4 VZ-58's, amongst "acquaintances". smile.

Alantic firearms is always outta the damn czech small arms ones.
Like ta get one someday.
Just the basic poly stock black one.

They are scarcer than hen's teeth down here.

You ever see the red phenolic resin wood impregnated ones they have advertised on alantic firearms.

Handsome looking as heck.

I wish I woulda bought a buncha combloc wpns when the wall
went down in 89 90 and the market got flooded till billy boy,s AWB in 94.

Big time investment on what it all brings now for prices.

Whenever I do see them around, the wood is all hacked up and the finish is about wore off of the metal.

Wish I could kick that rapist Billy Bob in the junk as hard as I could.

The ones on alantic firearms
The czech small arms ones are new manufacter with german lothar CL barrels.

Century arms makes em outta kits with non cl us barrels
Run around 600 to 750

Sticker shock.....
1090 for plain
1300 ish for phenolic red stocks.

You can't argue with that.

Nice AK47 BTW.

My cousin chooses to carry one when he does his contract work in Iraq. His sidearm is a Glock 17.

He chooses them because they go bang when they're supposed to.

Had a shot at a pristine one right here in the Fire Classifieds a few years ago that was priced a couple bucks over what market was then. You can't touch one in that condtion for that price now.

Enjoy that one, hanco!

Paid 600.00 for it about 8 years ago. Got it from a guy here at work. When I found out what it was really worth. I gave him another 200.00. It was the guy’s father’s. It was still a good deal at 800.00.

Yes they are. I shoot 80.5 Berger’s out of them, loaded long so single shot. I want to get some 85 nosler rdf they claim (nosler) you can shoot them from mag length. Berger claimed the same thing with the 80.5 full bore but I didn’t have much luck. But those 77 Sierra’s tmk’s at mag length shoot great.

Very nice combo, Remsen. Did you have a pinned and welded muzzle device prior on the 11.5"?

I would like to set my 11.5" BCM up for a can, but don't want to trip any legal switches.

Just a DPMS bbl (chrome lined) on a Stag upper w Anderson lower.
JP spring kit and set screw to get trigger decent.
Reg cheap furniture (like smaller OD handguard) and a Magpul grip.
Kinda heavy, but comfy. Shot recovery is good.

Does around .75" for 5 at 100 benched (when I slapped a 2-7X on it).

Had a Bushmaster during the ban, same 11.5/5.5 bbl but w fixed carry handle. Had a junk 4X on top, stock trigger and it did 1".
Slapped together a non chrome lined 1 in 9 full 16" on Stag upper/lower and it did .75" (2-7X and trigger job).

I find 1 in 9 usable and accurate, good enough for chucks or yotes out to 200. Which is what a non bipod rig would be used for.

Buds have heavy bbl $$$ ARs and go PD blasting. They are not walking rifles.

Assembling a lighter AR for the kids to run.
Pcs scattered about the kitchen LOL

For a bone stock non modified rifle, I really like the FNC para.
But they be pricey.

Not a fan of ARs, but they work. I treat mine like crap. Why it's called "the X" (as in X wife).

Small, loud, and don't give a damn about it.
