Looking for a 20ga pump (Rem 870,Mossberg 500,etc) 24in or shorter barrel. must have screw in chokes and be able to handle 3in shells. My son is getting to where he wants to hunt more now so need something for him to shoot. I dont mind if it has some wear as long as it functions properly. Locally i can pickup a new youth 870 for $269 at one of the big box stores so wanna keep price below that

I went and did the same search a few years ago for my daughters. The 870 Express guns are pretty cheap to buy but you get what u pay for. Beside being rough to operate compared to my 2 older 870s that I like alot the finish on the wood and metal is a joke, a mist is all it takes to start rusting which happened to a buddy with a new 12 gauge Express.
After alot of research I ended buying the mossberg 20 g 500 youth turkey camo model 54157. 22 inch barrel with Alot of features for the money. A good action and easy to use safety for them which was also easy for me to see. It has 2 stock length spacers. It was so light and easy to use I killed a few turkeys with it myself.
Will cost about 350 ish new on sale but a great gun in imho for what u are looking for.

Look at the Remington 11/87 compact. It seems to be between youth and adult!

I also got an 1187 compact so that my 12 YO grandson could share. OK for the money but llke all Rem econo matte finishes they rust while watching them. Good luck.

The Rem. Express 870's are a real POS for all the reasons mentioned above. Shop around for a used Wingmaster and you'll have a much better gun.

Not trying to get tons of pm's just want one decent deal on a user pumpgun to teach my kids. When walmart and academy sell 870s for 269 new and mossbergs for even less i didnt think itd be hard to find.

I bought a Mossberg 500 410 for $169.00 it is a really nice for that price.. regular venelated barrel full choke...a real hammer on squirrls. (just for me)

"Youth" shotguns and rifles get passed down through families/extended families or on to friends, neighbor kids, etc. At least in my area, it's rare that one goes back onto the "open market."
I can walk on water.......................but I do stagger a bit on alcohol.
