Whats so "old school" about a LAW rifle shooting barnes bullets? Im 46, not 73 like you, but my definition of "oldschool" means something more like an old pre 64 model 70, shooting nosler partitions.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

My old school is a Shiloh Sharps with barrel sights or a Winchester 71 with a peep
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets

I guess the old school would be an 06 and 4x scope no matter what package it is in.

Not very old school in my book either, although everything else from the last 50 years is playing catch up to that combination in number of game killed. Old school would be pacecars...which matches mine with the Shiloh but I diverge from the '71 and go to pre-WWI drillings, combination guns, Mannlicher/Schoenauer's or Mausers....all without scopes

I am old 73 ... I am going to ... just hunt. … Any opinions? Mr. ChuckK, I took out the parts I thought were irrelavent! ;o) At 73 years young, Sir, I say you just do whatever makes you enjoy life and who cares what anyone's opinion is! I just turned 60 and my idea of old school is a lot like yours, but who cares!? I hope to be out hunting into my 70's or beyond, like you, and wish you many more enjoyable years afield. Cheers, Rex

My mind drifts to this whenever I hear old school:
Shew me thy ways, O LORD: teach me thy paths. "there are few better cartridges on Earth than the 7 x 57mm Mauser" "the .30 Springfield is light, accurate, penetrating, and has surprising stopping power"

It's a .54 cal. Southern Mountain style Flint that a friend built for me in about '91. I requested a pretty stock and he came through in aces. I have killed some deer with it.

Old school to me is my remington model 14 made in 1920, my Mannlicher model 1906 made in 1921 or my 1903 springfield made in 1916. All still killing game just like new.
Life is too short to hunt with ugly guns.

Old school is the only way to go for me, my two centerfire hunting rifles are pre'64 M/70's. A FW .30-06 and a SG .35 Whelen, a Springfield 1922 M2 takes care of rimfire hunting and plinking.

My "old school" rifles are a couple of iron sighted Winchester 94's and an iron sighted .50 cal. T/C Hawken.

My opinion is that you should do whatever the Hell makes you all tingly, and not worry what a bunch of internet bozos (including Yours Truly) think about it. Sounds like you're covered. You might want to fire your spell checker though😜.
What fresh Hell is this?

That's a beautiful rifle, JGray. Care to share the specifics?

Yes JGray that is indeed a fine looking rifle and do give the specifics.

My "old school" rifles are a couple of iron sighted Winchester 94's and an iron sighted .50 cal. T/C Hawken. I gave up my iron sighted model 94's because I can't really see the sights anymore. I still have two Marlin 30-30's but they have scopes.
