First trip to the range yesterday to start getting ready in case I draw a muzzy tag for elk in CO this fall. I took my T/C Firehawk with an aperture sight and some conicals to test. I shot off the 50 yard bench and started with some 350 Gr Maxi-Hunters to get sight adjusted. Then I shot a nice 3 shot group using 270 Gr Federal BOR-LOCKs over 110 Gr of Triple 7. I followed up with a decent 3 shot group using 370 Gr Maxi-Balls with the same charge. The BOR-LOCKs shot so well I'm thinking about trying the 350 Gr version but I have no experience with them on game. If anyone here does please post your results. I also want to try some 300 Gr Thor's in this gun and my Omega. Have a sample pack coming and a new nipple for the Firehawk.

No scope. I have a T/C aperture sight on the gun.

I too am hoping to draw a CO elk tag for this fall.
I can't remember - does the Firehawk have that ridiculous QLA at the muzzle? I have T/C Triumph Bone Collector. I have been trying to dial in four different conicals (all > 350 grains) with two different powders (90-100 grain loads), different wads, paper-patch combinations, etc. I had hoped to work up a good load, remove the Leupold 2x7 and replace with a Skinner rear peep. After a bunch of powder and probably 80 bullets, the best I could achieve was a NoExcuse .503 bullet with teflon tape wrap - 3 rounds (cleaning between) was still 3" at 75 yards. Not acceptable in my opinion. I dropped off the barrel last night to have the QLA turned off and barrel re-crowned. I am hoping this helps.
This rifle will shoot saboted bullets to <1.5-2 MOA all day at 100 yards.
Good shooting, good hunting and good luck on the draw. Stay healthy. DJB

The Firehawk doesn't have QLA. It has a slower rate of twist 1-38" than my Omega which has the same rate of twist as your Triumph. I'm hoping to see some good results using Thor bullets with the Omega.
I get the best results shooting lead conicals with a fiber wad underneath and no wrap on the bullet. If I'm using Triple 7 I swab the bore after every shot. I use Blackhorn 209 in my Omega and don't bother swabbing at all unless the bore starts to feel dirty when loading. I'm surprised the Maxi-Balls didn't shoot better for you. You might try Thors or Powerbelt Platinum or the Fed BOR-LOCKs. I've seen good reports on them from Guys shooting Triumphs. They don't shoot well in my Omega.
