In my last 5 years of my 29 year career on the SPD I was assigned to the Harbor Patrol Unit and each "Seafair Celebration" week the Blue Angels would come to town and have a couple of practice sessions before the actual main Seafair Hydroplane Race day main display flights.
Anyway on practice days the Blue Angels would ask our Harbor patrol boat to set up in the exact center of the 3 mile hydro course. They used our patrol boat as a staging/reference point to begin and refer to in some of their maneuvers/displays. This was the coolest of assignments in my whole career I often thought as they screamed by.
No other boats or landmarks being in the center of the course the Blue Angels would repeatedly scream over our craft at what I am estimating to be 100" over us - their shock wave would indeed cause the small waves to part!
I have some impressive 35 m/m pictures of them flying by that close - but not as close as the fellow in your linked to video!

IIRC ground effect kicks in within one wingspan of the surface.
You can only tie the low altitude record....

Cool..... This site needs a "like" button. I've seen F4 Phantoms practicing close air support maneuvers in N. Carolina circa 1971. Where I was you couldn't see them coming because of the tree line and they weren't that low but they sure were cool.
