So far the average age of 7mm RM fans is around 57 years, which is interesting since that means they were born in 1963--a year after the round was introduced....

I will add to that average. Born in 1962. Age 57. HS science teacher. I have owned a Ruger #1 in 7mm RM for 20 years. Haven't used it for hunting every year, but it has accounted for a number of deer over the years with hand-loaded ammo using 160 gr. Sierra bullets. More than is needed for most of the deer hunting we do, but always felt it was a classic that I should own and get some experience with. It has always done the job when I have taken it hunting.

Probably because so many articles in every hunting magazine raved about the 7 mag. back in the '70's. I read a lot of those articles and wanted one for a time myself. One that I read by JOC where he said "try as I might, I never could detect any difference in the field between the .270 and the 7mm mag " {or something close} stuck in my head and I never did get one.

John,

Bought a Remington 700KS in 7mm Rem. Mag. in the first year or two after Big Green introduced that model. Shot (shoots) like a house afire. Whitetail, hog, pronghorn, elk, Dall sheep, coyote. 140 gr. Partition, 160 gr. Partition, 175 gr. Partition. I could happily hunt the rest of my days exclusively with that rifle but I can also say that about half a dozen other rifles/chamberings.

In six trips to Namibia (involving animals in the triple digits) I've never taken the 7mm Mag. preferring a .300 Win. Mag. Again, whitetail hunting (involving triple digit animals) the majority have fallen to a .25-06 or a like-powered chambering. To me, the 7mm Mag. will do pretty much what the great majority of hunters will ever ask a rifle to do if it's the only rifle someone owns. But I don't know anybody who owns only one rifle. To me the chambering is a "tweener": more than I want/need for deer, less than I need/want for elk, plains game, etc. I have no interest in seeing how far I can kill an animal but for long range work on deer the 7mm Mag. in a suitable rifle would be good place to start.

What I have learned in a little over sixty years is that, in this time and place, there are many, many excellent choices and not just in rifle chamberings. Aren't we the lucky ones!

Cheers, RS

Journeyman,

Thanks!

At my age ( a little older than you) I automatically tend to think of myself as a year older within a few days of my birthday--apparently because I feel luck to have lived this long--and in pretty good health!.

Just watched THE WIZARD OF OZ for maybe the 20th time, and among other things recognized, once again, that we should pay no attention to the man behind the curtain....

Despite your very high opinion of yourself you aren't very bright as my original post to this thread had NOTHING to do with you. It was simply a response to Mule Deers post as to why so many people your age might have bought so many 7mm's.

Nice rationalization, pussy...
I give thousands of hours and 10's of thousands of dollars in the three states I have homes/farms/ranches...and.... YES ...and I would hope for a "thank you" from broke d!ck" failures such as you...WE are keeping America safe from YOUR liberal paradises....

Again:

I'll humbly accept your "thank you's"...

It seems like there is a second pandemic of A-holeness going around. Are we all getting a little edgy?

Bob Briscoe said the 7RM was the best long range cartridge for the average shooter. I agree. Les Bowman thought it perfection for elk. Bob Hagel said it was a classic with the 160 Nosler and hard to improve upon. These writers were like crack to me in my formative years and my experiences have proved them right over and over again. Like Phil said the 7 RM is like the 30-06 what's not to like? I think of it as an improved 30-06 the advantages may not be discernible in the field but I do believe they are more than just paper advantages.

MD what happened to the 7&7 crowd in Montana? Did they give up on the 7RM or succumb to liver failure?

It's not MY liberal paradise dickhead. I was born here and won't be driven from my home by them and their policies. The area I live in is very conservative.
