Didn't have to change much to make it a Florida story.

If I get one I am giving it to Jesus. He needs it more than I do. He’s had it rough for the last month or so.

It was funny around here. They would line up at the local food stamp office for their cheese, and after they got it, they would walk around behind the office and sell it for cash or trade it for cigarettes.

The line behind the building to sell the cheese was as long as the line in front of the building to get it.

Hanco: One of the members on here is "teasing" me with a Remington 700 VSF Varmint Rifle in 223 Remington - and I have a lead on a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 over east.
I did buy the coolest little pistol last Saturday - it is a mint unfired in the box, with paper-work, blued Ruger MK-II with 6" sporter barrel - got it for a pittance on consignment from my local pawn/sport shop at $225.00 (no sales tax)!
I could NOT get the money out of my pocket fast enough.
As I was getting the money out of my pocket the counterman told me the box for the Ruger I was buying was from the wrong Ruger pistol and the original box had been sold with another pistol that the original estate/owner had also sold through that shop.
So I will be working on getting the "correct box" for that nifty little Ruger.
That will keep me busy for an afternoon or two I am sure.
I am again on the "try to buy in private sales" kick when buying guns. I am a bit paranoid that "the hildabeast" or earache holder will get back in power somehow.
For the first 50 years of my life I did not fear or distrust my government at all - these last 23 years though I am a bit skeptical if not "paranoid" and the last 12 years I have went out of my way to keep my sales "private" whenever possible.
Aaahh... it is up to 27 degrees here this afternoon and no wind - I am going shooting.

Auk1124: Your story reminds me of the welfare cheat I scared the "cheese" out of here in Montana!
I was headed up to Butte, Montana to peruse the pawn and sport shops one day several years ago. I had just gotten off of the freeway and was passing a Safeway store when I see this little old bum type man trundling out of the Safeway store with a couple of large heavy shopping bags - one in each hand. He was walking the way I was going as I stopped at a sport shop.
Then in a few minutes I headed for the next nearby pawn shop.
I walk in and low and behold no one is at the gun counter and I walk around a bit - there in the open office area of the pawn shop is the little old man bum and his shopping bags are up on the desk and the shop owner lady was going through the "steaks" that said bum had "purchased' at the Safeway 10 blocks back!
She was actually using a calculator to divie up his meats worth - her words "how about $80.00 that is just more than half their cost - how does that suit you" I was close enough to see and hear this and I approached the two cretins and in my harshest tone/voice I said "that does not suit me at all"!
The look on that bitches face was of stunned shock and silence - it was priceless!
The bum was lit and hardly moved - but his eyes got real big.
I turned and walked out.
I am sure I spoiled that one illegal use of "food stamps"!
At least I hope I did.
Sad.
New owners now at that pawn shop now.

I approve this use of tax money.

Agreed.

I try and get no refund, and pay nothing. My goal is a 0.00 balance.

I have never achieved this but I came damn close this year. I owed $94.

Not bad.

except the people who paid more get less (or nothing)

What does that have to do with calling it what it is or should be called? Execution of the program is different than the title of the program.

I guess I'm lost on the idea of someone getting a tax stimulus check while others don't and saying we took too much of YOUR money. I agree with taking too much

but the distribution back part means its not MY money, its now someone elses. YOUR money becomes relative to who gets something back

assuming we all agree they aren't just printing money

One year we got $100 back pretty proud of ourselves. Most people don’t understand the goal during taxes is to get as close to zero as possible.

I try and be +/- 100 on April 15.

0.00 is perfect but 100 bucks doesn't bother me.

SOME people are a couple grand - that would bother me.
