Whelen, Twist braided wire between thumb and forefinger til tight. When you install wire nut, lead the stranded wire. ie. stranded needs to be out past solid wire to start wire nut.

This should work. The wire nut should be an orange color.

And twist the braided wire around the solid wire righty-tighty, just like the cap will screw on.
Otherwise, it'll pull back from the solid wire as you screw on the cap.

A bit tricky braided, and solid, it can be done. I saw no bad advice here.

Twist the stranded wire tight with your fingers and leave it straight. Lay the solid and stranded next to each other with the ends even and twist on the wire nut. Then pull each wire separately while holding the wire nut to make sure it grabbed them. 40 years as a union electrician taught me that much!

This should work fine with orange wire nuts, the new fan has 18ga. stranded wire the house wiring is 14ga. solid wire. Wrap the stranded a couple of turns around the solid copper house wiring, or try just leading the house wiring as described. Joe

Wrap the stranded wire clockwise around the solid wire.

Hey, those are pretty neat. There have been a few time I could have used a few of those around the house. A bit expensive at almost a dollar apiece in the ten pack. (much better in bulk) But like "Shark Bite" pipe fittings a typical home owner would not be using enough to matter.

No, solder is a violation of electrical code for AC current of that level, problems will ensue.

Jeez I don't know. Wired in a ton of fluorescent ballasts with no problem. Stranded twisted around solid wire(yeah, righty tughty). Trim off the extra stranded extending past the solid. Give the whole shebang a twist with the needle nose to make it tight. Then twist on the wire nut. Make sure your nuts aren't too big. You should feel them grab and thread onto the splice. Somebody mentioned orange (Trump?) nuts - that's what I usually used.
The little twist with the needle nose is important to tighten up the splice so the stranded doesn't slide around on the solid.
