Cool. Love the full stock. I've always wanted a Sako 222. Because they got the small action.

You sir are a thief/ Good on you. I killed a lot of critters in SA with a Mannlicher 375. Little noisy but not like anything with a brake. Good buy

I'd say that was an excellent deal.

You did good!
A Mannlicher stocked L61R with better than average wood for that period......
and if it came with the rings and scope, you made out!
ya!

I bought a pair of Sako L579s about '95. 243and 308, both full stocks. One with QD rings you just tip a lever and turn the scope off. I have a peep that can go on where the rear ring was. Both have killed several whitetails. I now have quite an affinity for full stock guns. The ones I have handled have a synergy about swinging them onto a target. And they are usually light to carry all day. Be Well, Rustyzipper.

Retired3100: Wow - if that Rifle came with that scope at that price you stole it! Good for you. I do not remember ever seeing a Mannlicher style Sako in that caliber before. Again good for you. Emjoy that fine Rifle in that most excellent caliber. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Well, I just returned from the range. After diddling with the scope, I managed a 5 shot group of about 1 1/4". I usually shoot a little better, but the guy to the right of me was popping off caps from a 458 Win., shaking everyone there and the guy to the left of me was rapid firing his AR shooting an occaisional empty down my shirt. Then I had the wife texting me every 5 minutes, "When you coming home". Overall, I'm impressed. I was shooting that crap Remington Core-Lokt 150 grain pills. I never shoot factory ammo, unless I need brass, so I'm sure my home brew will tighten those groups up a bit.

Retired- the scope appears to be 3-9 leup. the original sako mounts are worth between 150-200. if they came with the rifle; you paid 400 for it!!!!??? you do not say where you are ; or what you are going to shoot with it. I have several sako mannlichers . one L61r in 30-06. you have the later model post 72. they are nice. the sako mannlichers are not as easy to get to shoot as the sako sporters. . my experience, a 5 shot group of 1 1/4" sounds good . very nice rifle.

The scope and rings were included with the rifle. It is a Leupold VX1 4X12X40. I've seen the scope retail for $300 alone. I currently live in NY, but I'm moving to NC in a month or so. I plan to use it for hog hunting. Most locals in NC recommend a magnum for the piggies. I will also use it for deer hunting, alternating between my Sako and my H&R Ultra in 30-06. My H&R is a mannlicher also with an FN Mauser receiver. I believe my handloads will shrink that group to an inch or under.

I think that with out without scope that is good deal -- REALLY good with the scope. If you ever tire of it ... I will gladly buy it from you!!

Love my Sako as well. I have several in 30/06 (Bofors steel), another in 222, also Bofors. I also had a 70’s vintage 7mag like yours. I sold it this past year to a friend that needed it for an upcoming elk hunt. If you reload for 7mag RL-25 is a great powder with 150 grain bullets.....every 7mag I’ve ever had loved that powder.

Welcome to Sakoville! Beautiful rifle and nice snag. My father had a Mannlicher in 243, was a beauty. It never got shot so he sold it, wish he didn't.

It would have given you a couple minutes of peace while they figured it out.
