Two Savages came in to the FFL in the last few days and I'm anxious to see both. Both look really nice online, well soon see. One is a 99T in 300 and the other a 99F in 284 with the cut checkering. Been looking for both for a very long time and they hit the market just a few days apart. That's how it seems to happen at times. Hard on the checkbook but man it's hard to say no after looking at so many no good ones.

The T has a standard Savage sight, but ctw sold me the correct T sight a year or two ago and I'd been patiently waiting for the right gun for years before that. I always figured if the right 99T came along it would probably be missing the correct rear sight. Sure enough grin.

The 99F 284 compliments a few other 284's I have from the 64-65 timeline. I can't wait to set them all side by side and compare barrel addresses and features. Maybe I'll throw up some early 284 photos.

The Bible says there's a time for building and a time for tearing down. We're all just temporarily entrusted with these rifles, but today it's my turn to build. Who knows, tomorrow I may be tearing down. I don't feel too bad, I've been forced to sell some dandy's in the past. Occasionally selling some helps keep it all in perspective. Otherwise I'd be an obsessive Savage hoarder like summa you guys! LOL.

A third unrelated gun that came in is a Colt Buntline in 22 magnum. Never had anything like that. Looking forward to squirrel control with that one.

News at 11.

Your day beats mine. The highlight of my day was finding some beer I didn't know I had and catching a snake.

That doesn't sound like a bad day.

Yeah not a horrible day, it just didn't involve finding savages ;-)

As an extra bonus I just found the first ticks of the year on me. Joyous.

See, things are looking up! Thanks, that gave me a good laugh. I've removed ticks from some of the most unspeakable places.

Well, bittersweet news on the Savage front.

99F in 284 was misrepresented and am negotiating with the seller on what to do about sending it back. He claims it was cracked in shipment. FFL says it was very poorly packaged but box not "too bad". This is a buyer I have bought from before with no issue. Has a brass pin in the stock which was not disclosed. Entirely unsatisfactory.

99T while not perfect is what would call very very good. There are no doubt perfect ones in collections but for the open market this is about as good as I would expect. Extremely light edge and lever wear, otherwise handling marks. I'm happy for the price I paid for it. If it had cost twice as much it would not work. Checkering is so sharp it catches towel lint which shows in the photos.

Very nice T Roy. Just something about them that makes them wonderful.

Bummer about the F

I think it's the darned forearm that makes them feel so right. And the 22" barrel.

That T is absolutely gorgeous. The case colors on the lever are almost new looking. Nice rifle in anyones collection. Hope it works out on the F, it would be disappointing for sure. That T makes up for a little of the pain, I hope.

I'd probably trade a northern red bellied snake, what's left of the 12 pack of pale ale I found and two deer ticks for the F ;-)
