I was on the other side of the state today and had to stop for gas. The gas station had a small liquor display. I thought I had seen folks here mention Makers Mark, so I grabbed a fifth for my Son in Law. Did I insult him?
I would not know, anything over 15% ETOH all tastes like isopropyl to me

It's OK if Jack Daniel's isn't available. Gentleman Jack is good, but Single Barrel is a cut above GJ. Jerry

Thanks.
Kessler's? I will try to remember that.
Hey this is as good a place to ask as any. One of my cousins had a bottle of Scotch. I think the glass was green but not positive.
I know the bottle was kept in a green paper cylinder.
Any good guesses as to what it was? Even I could sip on that stuff.

"Glenlivet 12" Scotch comes in a green bottle- - - - -aged 12 years, I believe. Good stuff, if you like booze that tastes a little bit like smoked pork barbecue. Actually, that's the "youngest" scotch that Glenlivet sells- - - - -some of their higher quality stuff is aged much longer, and is priced accordingly. Jerry

Never cared for it as a mixer but liked it straight with a chaser or straight over ice.

Makers is an absolutely appropriate gift. Ignore folks telling what to get. They’re spending your money lol. If he doesn’t like it that’s fine, but it’s not an el cheapo like Old Crow lol

I dont drink much of anything stronger than 10-11%. I have a bottle of Makers Mark Cask Strength on the counter. Even i can drink it neat. Mix it and I'm in trouble fast.
I think i'm going to try Glenlivet or Highland Park Scotch next.

While the Bride and I were in Rome last Fall I had gotten tired of Italian beer and red wine. We had eaten, always a treat went up to the rooftop bar to watch the sunset. I noticed there was a bottle of Maker's Mark, held up three fingers, a worthwhile sample, rejoined my Bride. Not bad! Of course, it may have been the environment, all the history, and culture.

For awhile that’s the bourbon I asked for in my standard manhattans. Not bad at all. There’s better, there’s FAR worse. Certainly not an insult to gift someone a bottle. I’d be happy to get one. Unless someone really has their nose way up in the air. If all bourbons were split into tiers of quality by thirds, I’d put MM somewhere around the bottom of the top third, maybe even higher. Like a B+ or A-.
