Got tired of solving everyone elses problems decided to take a couple weeks off and work on our new place. I didn't like the way the deck attached to the shop so I cut it out and made a walk thru from one patio area to another. Going to end up with shrub beds on each side of this patio area, either paving stones or exposed concrete patio, and outdoor lights. Total for the two patios will be in the 700 square foot range. I must be sick I like hard work. At least it's for us and not someone else. We're going to have some epic parties here when I'm done. Also putting a loop driveway around the property so I can get the trucks and equipment around without turning around. Still have a week and a half so when the decks are done I'll loop the property with water for some privacy screening.

I don't know how people get along without equipment. I guess they hire or buy completed properties? I love this schit.

"equipment"..... If you can pull it with a 1/2 ton P/U it's a glorified shovel.

I always wanted a front end loader so that I could dump a ton of horse shît across someone’s driveway. Now that I have the loader, I don’t hate anyone any more.

You have a 963 loader, the first thing you think is "[bleep], I could push this [bleep]'s house over!"

We don't have a skid steer...

I want one and I also want a post pounder to go with it.

And then we'd need a little trailer to pull it around.

Now we road a tractor, use a 3-point auger and set railroad ties.

Takes forever.

Yeah you can pull a skidsteer on a 7000' car hauler since they weigh about 5500 lbs, but when you throw a few extra buckets, post hole digger , or whatever on ther you'll need at least a 10K trailer. Mine are 14K trailers just to make sure there's enough brakes and payload for whatever. Excavator is overweight but the Bobcat is perfect.

Sam you've beent talking about a skidsteer for awhile. You won't ever regret buying one. They are super useful. I had a friend with a dairy farm and I went to help him for a while. He fed cows with his, a tiny little Bobcat 400 series. He'd drive it up on the catwalk and kicked the food off each side. They are useful for most everything, but attachments are expensive.

My brother picked up a case 310 track loader for $75 and drove it home. I am hoping to put a post pounder on the front. Fricken skidsteers are expensive.

If we ever get one it is going to be old and inexpensive.

I recommend the tracks over wheeled.

i would love a skid loader and mini excavator. around here its $400/day to rent plus diesel. those little kubota's with the loader and bucket look nice too. then i'd need a trailer and a dump truck. maybe the murder hornet stimulus check will be $100k and i'll be set.

I checked out a new Bobcat tracked skid steer the other day. $42K. I paid $12K for mine with 176 hours on it. It's at 1300 hours now, 10 years later. You can pick up used machines all day long for that money but most have 2500-3000 hours on them. Skid steer hours are hard hours, no easy time on these machines.

My perfect package would be a tracked skid steer and mini excavator along with a short flatbed dump oil burner truck in 4x4 that was heavy duty enough to drive the skidsteer into the bed of the truck while pulling the excavator on a trailer. It'd have to carry all the attachements, both machines, have a fuel tank for filling machinery, and must be 4x4. Total weight for machinery would be in the 25-30K pound range.

I looked at one 4x4 truck at an equipment yard that came out of California due to their stricter emission regulations recently enacted. It didn't have the bed but was an International 4x4 diesel truck with the short chassis. I would have been $30K into it when complete. It was just too old, 1980's and w/o air conditioning, to spend that kind of money on it. It'd be great to show up at a project with both machines, all attachements, and a dumptruck, complete and ready to roll for anything. I think it'd get a lot of looks and word of mouth work.

I've gotta make two trips to get everything to a job now. Everything fits on 2- 14K pound trailers but you kill a half a day transporting for a day or two long project.

I use the heck out of my little BX25. Has about 565 hours on it I believe. I don't use the backhoe attachment regularly, but seem to find a project or 2 every year for it. They can do a lot more than people think and the size is sure handy for working in the horse stalls/runs. This was last week:
