Went in today for some mild shoulder surgery, torn bicep to be snipped and clean out some bursitis.
Been waiting on the Kung flu restriction to lift for several weeks to get this done.
Doctor had already said that mri didn’t show torn rotator cuff, but if he saw anything while he was in there he’d fix it.
Last Thursday walking in the yard I felt something give in the shoulder and wondered if it was the rotator cuff tearing.
then on Friday they called and set up surgery for today .
Woke up a few hours after I was sedated wearing a sling and knew the cuff had torn.
6 weeks in a sling and PT!

Fun times!

One of the boys had that done a couple years back, went pretty smooth.
When he woke up there was a different nurse in the recovery wing, and he noticed with a response of "Who the f@$k are you" laugh
Even the nurse laughed.

Best of luck

I am scheduled to see an Orthepedic in a couple weeks about a torn bicep. Just happened to notice it one day, have no idea when it happened.

This looks like a torn long head, should be minor. Not any pain or aches with it. I tore the lower bicep tendon (attaches to the forearm) in my other arm years ago. There was no doubt when it happened.

I just have to get it done so I don't miss archery elk this year. I'm going no matter what, just depends on if I'll be camping and calling or actually carrying my bow.

He gave me a nerve block on my shoulder, said it should wear off by morning, it’s probably the weirdest feeling I’ve had .
Got an appointment with PT tomorrow morning, they will remove bandages and start torture.
Fuzzytail, other shoulder has been torn, started bothering me a while back and mri showed too much atrophy to fix, it needs a joint replacement.

Looks like I’m back in the recliner again!

I tore my shoulder apart completely a couple of years ago. Went almost a month with the first hospital/specialist telling me to be patient... Had to sleep the whole time sitting up in a recliner.
Second and best specialist at another hospital took one look and in I went. I have a long scar from front to back where they opened me up to sew all four muscle groups back in place, couldn't do mush with the severed bi cep, had to re attach that down to the side of my arm bone.
The lawsuit is pending.

Yeah, the hardest part for me was sleeping in a chair. Now the shoulder I had done is stronger than the other side. Just takes time.

If your orthopedist suggests that you need the long head of the biceps repaired, with no other pathology (rotator cuff or labral tear, for instance [so he'd have a more valid reason for proceeding]), then you'd better get a second opinion . . . .

I agree. It sounds a little like a blank check. Mine was much more positive on the diagnosis.

Yep they re-attached my bicep during my shoulder replacement. Now it is down about two inches fron where it should be. Definitely a 2nd pinion called for

Look into a cross bow permit for archery until you are recovered fully.Don't push it

If you like your PT after, your not doing it right. Had mine done at 30. Recovery was a bear. Only surgery I ever had where I hurt worse after, but I was non functional before. Trying to put my left off as long as I can.

I suspect I have a degenerative rotator cuff. If I end up doing work where I am lifting above my shoulders, then by night, I can't raise my left arm to take my shirt off without intense pain. Usually a nights sleep and taking it easy the next day will get it back to reasonable.

I'd be interested in hearing is surgery gets you back to your old self or it just a patch.

My wife had surgery to repair bone spur and a complete tear of her rotator cuff. Shoulder surgery is no joke. She is a real trooper and handled it much BETTER than I would have.

She had stem cells injected after surgery and she has healed fine. It is a very long recovery and you must do your PT as directed!

The skill, timing and experience of the surgeon is critical. So is the skill, experience and patience of the Physical Therapist. Do whatever you can to help yourself, including listening to your body and your professionals. Ask questions when appropriate, but be absolutely dedicated to healing.

About five or six years ago the soreness finally told me to get something done. The MRI showed that I had a torn ligament, some arthritis and bursitis, and bone spurs in my shoulder. Probably too many preg checks. My Orthopedist was an old friend and didn't hesitate to recommend surgical repair on a 70-something patient. He was right. My Therapist was diligent and insurance was adequate. Totally mended in about 90 days. Then about a year later I got into a wreck with a steer and went down HARD on that elbow, heard something pop. I dreaded the diagnosis; the X rays showed the shoulder just fine, but a broken collar bone.

I sent the surgeon another thank you note.
