What are you using in a horse pasture that won't hurt horses?

Round-Up and or 2-4D at my house.

I actually had a fellow campfire member look at a wheeler a few states over from me to see if a machine was worth buying, it was a 2009 for about $3800. Very kind of him to step up for me..
I bought the machine after his thorough inspection and his listening to it run. Turns out he knew the guy selling it.

Got it shipped to me here in Idaho with a shipping co. and fired it up.........instantly knew it had a horrific rod knock. The engine was total chit. Brutal.

oh man, I'd be sick. I drop $400 on something - well I don't have high expectations, I get what I pay for. $3800 and I get burned? I'm driving over to the guys house, even if its 2 states away.

Trust me, It was really frustrating.
And of course I wouldn't bitch at the guy who eyeballed it for me..

No win situation. I rebuilt it and sold it.
Recovered most of the painful loss, but not all.

CL is no different than advertising in the newspaper or putting it out front with a sign on it. It's just a place to list stuff, nothing guaranteed. That's on your own head, buyer beware, just like any other method of private buying and selling. Why do guys blame CL when it's their own fault? I've had very good luck buying and selling on there but I look before I buy.

I'd take it somewhere and have it tig welded instead of just patching it up.

first thing I'll do it get the motor out of the frame and see what I'm dealing with

That will probably be this weekend. I need to clean up my workshop first.

2,4-D but don't use it near ponds, it's toxic to fish. Gordon's Pasture Pro to be specific. Don't apply if the temperature will get over 90 degrees that day.

We always wait a few days before letting the horses back on it.

quad is back together, running clean, idle has been set and no issues so far

I'm going to keep it a couple of months and ride it around the house. If it doesn't show any signs of oil leak/air escaping, I can sell it with a clean conscience

money lost is now potentially money deferred

As others have mentioned here, it can be a losing battle trying to weld aluminum that has been full of oil, especially if it's been hot. It's almost impossible to get the oil out to the point that you won't get all kind of snap, crackle and pop when you try to weld it. Very surprised if you can run a puddle very far at all without it blowing on you. The other thing you run into, is not all aluminum is really very weldable. 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx, yeah, you get down into some of the lower series alloys and they have a lot of silica or whatever and you'll run into the same sort of situation.
