I just take a 4-5' piece of smooth wire and shove it in the ground about a foot. Pick a place directly under the fence.
Now get stick that you can use to touch your grounded wire to the hot wire. When they meet you will see a little spark and hear a little zap.
Leave the wire in the ground and check it whenever you want. Obviously make sure that your ground wire only contacts the hot when you want to test. Sam, I will try to remember that one. I'm a long time blade of grass user though. And cheap. I might find a different use for the wire.............grass is free! Geno

Take a whiz on it............if you feel like someone just shot a razorblade up your pecker, you'll know the fence is working. OR you really should get to a doctor.

Using a blade of grass is the way I've always done it. You just feel a tingle. Same here. Take a long stem of grass and touch it. If you dont feel anything, move it your hand closer. Keep doing this until you feel a tingle. Make sure you are grounded.

Take a blade of grass and touch the fence with it a couple of on inches from your fingers and slowly move your hand closer while keeping the grass on the wire. You should feel it at about an inch to an inch and a half from the wire. That's exactly the way I used to test um !!!!!

The fencer I got now will hurt you, if you touch the grass to the wire just an inch from your hand. I can feel it tingle 6-8 inches from the wire and if I'm grounded really good and got a green stem of grass, 12" from the wire. Monday morning, I finished putting up the electric fencing around the garden spots. Somewhere around 3000' of wire.

I put the last fencer beside the basement entry door, beside the woodshed- I am in and out of the door numerous times a day. It is a large, powerful fencer with a digital display and a loud audible sound. It powers through a tree falling on it and I will see this on display before I find.
I have a good tester and many cheap ones handy. A length of insulated wire will work.
My neighbor says he holds onto it to correct he arthritis, I think it has altered his brain- for the worse.
It would bring you to your knees if conditions were a little wet. Bulls don't mess with it

I always just used the back of my hand to tap it, it's not like your hooked up to Ole Sparky.

We had a fencer call a "Bulldozer" and it would put a grown man down , I think Ole Sparky would be a joy compared to that fencer. Last year, the first time I checked this new fencer, it shocked me thru my tennis shoes. Usually tennis shoes will insulate me, at least with the fencers we had before. Not this one. The label says it's good for 100 miles of fence. All I know... the dang thing will hurt you.
