I can answer the question about the front sight being functional on rgrx1276's rifle. The front sight is very functional when you detach the scope and attach a NECG receiver sight. rgrx1276, I hope it shoots as well for you as it did for me. RJ I have NECG auxiliary peep sight for Ruger and Weaver bases, but have never used them.

260, I prefer X/S ghost ring receiver sights, but for the Rugers, there's not too many sights that just attach with a thumb nut like the NECG's. I have modified X/S Weavers to use on Rugers and both to use a thumb nut. To the OP, I apologize for getting off topic. Ruger Weaver

I've had a Nikon Pro Staff 3-9X40 for years. It's very clear and has withstood a lot of slapping around on an FN FAL. They've been discontinued but you can still find them in stock here and there. This place is blowing them out for $100. https://www.fieldandstreamshop.com/...7nknunkn39x40bdcopt/17nknunkn39x40bdcopt

Looking for a scope in the 3-9x40 range for a plain .223 sporter. It must have a BDC reticle. What do you recommend under $400? I'd probably go with SWFA SS Ultralite 2.5-20x32 with BDC reticle. It is perfect for the application. ILya

Put a SS 2.5-10 with ranging reticle on my 223. Out the door with shipping was 300.00 IIRC. I'm happy with it. Rgr that’s a good looking rifle. What is it? Ruger MK II SS in a Ruger UL stock. Cool rifle.

Another vote for the Pro-Staff with BDC if you can get one.

SWFA Ultralight Those CZ's are the coolest of cool. My only wish is they had an internal mag and chambered for 6 PPC.
When people face the possibility of freezing or starving there is little chance they are going to listen to unfounded claims of climate doomsday from a bunch of ultra-rich yacht sailing private jet-setting carbon-spewing hypocrite elites
