Had desert for dinner tonight as I had a large flat of strawberries on the counter since yesterday when they should have been in the fridge. Fired up the oven and made a big pan of shortcake.

Ice cold milk washed it all down.

Good stuff.

Huge pan of shortcake left over from last night so it was a nice strawberry breakfast this morning. Gotta do this more often.

Did you macerate the strawberries with a little sugar first?

I also like left out "stale" pound cake in a bowl with fruit and a little heavy cream pour over as a dessert or befast.

Fats, a day or overnight "sugar soak" is a given as the syrup it generates is really the key to the dish. First helping was only a hour or so but breakfast the next day was OH MY !!!!! Always great color as well.

Another flat awaits in the 'fridge for later this week. laugh cool

Pronghorn braised with leeks, mushrooms, barley ,serranos and a side of spinach.

Once again, the fork was quicker than the camera.
