Got my rebored 375 Whelen today and made some brass fron PPU '06 brass. Shooting a 278 gr GC with 40 grs of Varget! Starting load and seems to be a good spot maybe to hunt with. I would like some input about others 375 Whelen experience, not 375 AI or 400 Whelen or other cartridges, seems my threads always get high jacked! Hunting or shooting stories and pictures would be nice! Thanks in advance, Otis.

I realize you don't want anything .375 Whelen AI, but there is little difference between it and the regular version.

Very cool, some pictures of the formed cases and the rifle would be mighty cool too!

Are you planning to shoot any jacketed from it?

I had one many years ago. It was pretty light and had a 22” barrel with a 1-9” twist. I was surprised at the velocities that it would produce. Mine was the Ackley version. I have never had any luck necking cases up with a tapered mandrel. So, I expanded the necks by using inert filler. The formula I was taught is to use 20% of the weight of the max charge. Use the fastest pistol powder, I used Bullseye or Unique. Always use a pistol primer!
Figured I would get the improved version since it was the same amount of work.

The recoil was much like a 375 H&H given that the ballistics were within 150-175 fps. Actually an H&H down loaded will, I believe, have comparable recoil at the same velocities.

It performed really well but was too much trouble so I turned it into a 375 H&H. The only wildcat that I have used that was worth the trouble was the 25-06. Then it became a factory deal. I really like it for critters under 500#.

Well my photos are too large, but I don't know if I'm going to shoot jacketed bullets or not! I Have not had any issues making cases and head spacing! Bought dies from CH4D they had them on the shelf, $109 plus shipping! JES reboring did it plus more of my other rifles which are mostly cast boolit shooters. The load right now is 50.5 grs of Varget but going up to 55 grs as another shooter of the same cartridge said his sweet spot is 55.0 Grs. Recoil is less than a lot of some 30-06's I've shot and no where as bad as my Win mags! It's hard to use an IPad on this forum!
