When the CIA didn't have any scopolamine, they would scrape the inside of a banana peelings into a soup can, mix a touch of water with it and boil it over a candle. The smoke is a truth serum of sorts.

On old college buddy dried banana peels and ground them up and smoked them. Said it was better than pot and it was not illegal

The rumor was you are supposed to scrape the firmer pulp nest to the skin, dry it gently in the oven, then smoke it. Never knew anyone to actually try it. Maybe my cousin's buddies but they were so dopey you wouldn't notice a difference. The whole car load would get high off of one skinny joint made of ditch weed. Cops used to get a kick out of that. (ditch weed was hemp gone wild from the days hemp was legitimately grown for fiber. Almost zero THC - the most you could expect out of it was a headache.)

A good friend of mine, since passed away, was a POW in Vietnam. His name was CDR Ralph Gaither. Wrote a book about his experiences whilst a POW for over seven years. The gooks used to feed them rotten bananas from time to time and the POW's considered them a treat, peel and all...

Did a double take when I saw Windsor NY mentioned... somewhat familiar with that area. For those not, it is nothing like Windsor, Ontario. It's a small town, primarily a railroad, logging and stone quarry town, always had a sort of rough reputation. My maternal grandparents lived in a little hamlet outside there by the name of Oquaga. My grandfather had a hunting camp on the Susquehanna River beyond Deposit a ways, in the town of Hancock. It was a two story wooden frame place, living spaces downstairs, barracks style sleeping accommodations upstairs...off the grid before that was a thing. My cousin and I used to fish smallmouths in the river, the other side was Pennsylvania.

I friggin' LOVE New York State, prettiest State in the Union, its just the gun laws, politics and taxes I cannot abide.

...and the Hancock Diner was a must-stop-in anytime we or I was heading up Rt 17 cool

I have heard Sunday afternoon traffic jams heading back to the NYC area extend all the way up past Middletown towards Monticello now, but the place is beautiful yet.

Holy Schit! I used to the Hancock Diner when I was a kid. Loved it up there! Loved the whole area!

It’s funny how these things go but I was just discussing this with a buddy last night. If I could go back in time and see a place before humans fuggEd it up, it would be the upper and lower Hudson Valley.

My Dad referred to bananas as 'monkey pickles'. That's all I needed to know.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Go for it. And wouldn't it be something if you tripped over a remedy.

BTW after about 10 years in NY (the 'Cuse) I moved - didn't love it. The City even less. Notice in ID you don't need the same street sense to cover your ass? And someone walking down the street arguing with his invisible friend gets attention and help?

Syracuse is nicer than Buffalo. Syracuse itself is rather small. But there is a seemingly endless number of adjoining small towns that make up the metro area, I lived in North Syracuse. Was actually pretty nice, the sheriff's helicopter didn't fly over with its spotlight on very often. Stayed out of the rotten apple as much as possible. Living in Arlington, VA was bad enough - I do not miss the DC metro area though it was fun when I was younger.

Years ago my grandfather told of a guy on the railroad during the
Depression. He would eat away from everyone. And was sensitive
about his lunch bucket. One day, they got it and opened it. He had
potato peels. He left the "good" for his family and ate the peels.
Those old folk thought that was something real bad to eat potato peels.

Today, we call them "Tater Skins" and trendy types pay $10 for a plate
of potato peels with a bit if cheese and bacon. WTF!

You may be the beginning of a culinary trend.

That was a MAN.

WOW! Some positive commentary about NY State.
In the area you guys are mentioning Dave Buden runs a great local gun store in Margaretville. Has a good selection of Trout flies too. The Susquehanna and Delaware rivers both come from North of there.

Tis a beautiful state. I once heard it's so attractive some ole Texan rode his bicycle all the way up here. Local folks told they thought he was from China. Something about his attire caused the speculation. My hat's off to him. Seems like he ended up just a few miles from where I live.

I too love the beauty of the state and dislike the gun laws and government. Lived 80 years here. Haven't tried the banana peals yet.
