Went to the local Post Office to mail a long box that contained about 10 pounds of machine tool whistle , plopped it up on the counter and told the lady Priority Mail with $800.00 insurance, please. Yes, Sir, she said , fixed it right up, took my money, gave me a receipt and bid me adieu.

No "What's in the box?", no "Is this a gun?" nothing of that sort at all. Everything just the was it's supposed to be.

Nice to live in a little town in the West. grin

In at least two, easier to handle pieces.

Until some folks at the post office notice a big increase in shipments of collectible baseball bats and machine parts. Be creative and don't ship too much of the same thing.

I have never in my life had a postal worker ask me what I was mailing. Is there an official policy regarding this? If they ask you, and you say “baseball bats”, is there legal recourse for lying about what you are sending? Does anyone know for sure? Gus?

It also occurred to me that if you have a damaged gun, and an insurance claim for “collectible bats” and there were no bats in the package...

I’ve never been asked what’s in the box.

It would seem the most ambiguous way to describe the contents correctly without calling it a firearm would be along the lines of “assembled machined steel and wooden (or plastic) parts”.

Yeah you guys really got em fooled!. They'd never guess it's a gun.

Neighbors wife runs a inner web store. They have a double 4 foot wide locker 7 feet high set up by the mailboxes. I buy postage online and stick my fence posts in there. The mail carrier asks me what model those fence post s are once in a while. But we shoot ground squirrels together once in a while so he is just making sure i am not selling a rifle he covets.

I drive 15 minutes away to tiny tiny post office in a podunk town. The little old lady there couldn't give a crap if you were shipping a thermonuclear weapon.

They can’t ask what’s in it, just if there’s anything flammable, etc...

I was asked once and then told I couldn’t ship it, I asked for the supervisor and had her explain the rule to her subordinate. Supervisor wasn’t happy but did it. Last problem I had. I usually use a different post office that could not care less and certainly aren’t trying to push their anti gun beliefs on you. It is another tiny country office and is easier and just plain friendlier.

Local private business that accepts UPS packages isn't supposed to ship guns so I've told them tractor parts. Not breaking any federal or state laws, but would likely loose if I had to make a claim.

Long gun at P.O. is ok isn't it? But I still don't think it's any of their business to specifically ask. So, I answer the specifics about chemicals, explosives, etc. & I am shipping parts there as well.

Other than snail slow at times, I've had no trouble with PO. Local gunshop owner has had so many damaged packages through them that I wonder if he has an enemy at the local PO. Maybe a gun hater.
