I don’t have a dedicated “turkey gun”, just a gun I kill turkeys with. I would like to, but this one seems to work alright.

No official favorite yet.
It would be me franchi affinity 12 gauge, but I have the same thing in 20 gauge now.
Think the 20 gauge will win, but have yet to take a turkey with it.
The light weight, good pattern, and nice trigger have replaced my other attempts at turkey guns,

Late 70’s early 80’s I had a 2 3/4” 1100 that I had cut down and threaded for a choke tube. I think it was around 21”. I killed a bunch of turkeys and ducks with it. Then I read in a magazine that you had to have a 3” magnum to kill turkeys 🙄 and traded it. Wish I had it back. I’ve gone through all sorts of brands and actions since those days. I’m using a Franchi Affinity 20ga with TSS now and it’s my all time favorite, even over the old 1100. It’s light, doesn’t hurt to pull the trigger and shoots great.

Ha! Looks like im going to have to try a 20ga next time as I love a light weight Shotgun. I am curious to see what kind of killing range a Full choke 20ga will have with the right ammo....Hb

My favorite but not the best was an old 16 gauge single shot (Iver Johnson?). It was my Dad's and we shot a bunch of Turkeys with it before I was 15. Can't remember how much shot only that we used 7.5's. It was a full choke. Today I like either a 12 ga. Mossber 500 or a 20 ga. Remington 870 both with tight Turley chokes.

An HE 1923 SuperFox 3 in backed by an LC Smith Long Range 3 In. Both have double triggers allowing barrel and load choices instantaneously. Old fashioned but works.

I guess my BPS 10 gauge. Still pack it every spring.
I do have a Browning Gold NWTF model, 3" gun that I like as good as any other 12 gauge I have ever had. 24" barrel has been pretty picky as far as tight patterns but it will throw a true "hunting" pattern with about any load.
I have a set of Williams Firesights with the ghost ring on the rear.
If I were on the hunt for another 12 gauge I would look for an older 11-87 Special Purpose. Sarin walnut wood and black matte finish. I wanted one of these in the late 80s/early 90s when I was buyomg my first shotgun.

I hunt turkeys 40-55 days a year. I made a dedicated gun a few years ago that I have never seen one better. Benelli SBE1 with a 24" barrel and Rob Roberts trigger job. Forcing cone has been lengthened and polished. Has a Benelli SteadyGrip and topped with a Burris FFIII on a Burris SpeedBead mount. Have several Kicks Chokes custom made for different shells depending on what kind of terrain I'm hunting. Don't have to shoot TSS... just regular Copper plated lead and it will SMOKE a 10" pattern at 50 yards. I can change chokes and shoot Winchester Long Beard and kill at 70 yards with ease if I ever felt the need (I would rather not shoot if I had to snipe one)
Never seen a better rig, but always on the lookout for a better mousetrap.

Winchester Longbeard is lead shot? 70 yards?

Yes... Copper Plated Lead Shot... I've not attempted a bird at 70, but have shot targets at that range and know what the pattern looks like. I let a young man use it several years ago to can a field bird at 64 yards with LB #5's. Most all my birds are 25-35 yards.

If y'all are looking for the ultimate turkey gun, my son showed up at camp with one of these this weekend: RIA Imports VR80 It's a mag fed ar-style shotgun. Yes, you can put an extra full choke on it. Yes, it takes 3" shells Yes, you can put a plug in it for only 2 shells in the mag Yes, it'll take your choice of optics He was trying it out as a skeet gun, and it was having trouble with super-light target loads. It has magazines available so that he can shoot up to 28 rounds without reloading. He'll have to make adjustments, but it does the full-house stuff really well. My other son just bought an automatic clay thrower, so they were having a real whizz bang time of it yesterday.

I always keep in mind that it's still lead shot and at extended distances regardless of patterns the individual pellets are required to penetrate and break neck vertebrae and crack skulls. I've killed gobblers out to 50 yards with lead #5's, but no way I personally would try 70 yards. Probably a discussion for a different thread.

This was my granddad's AH Fox. It stayed in the safe for years until I took out again about 10 years ago and started hunting with it.. it is a lot of fun to hunt with.

!925 Ansley H. Fox- "SuperFox" 3 inch magnum. Nash Buckingham's favorite. Patterns #4 coppered shot 10-15 yards beyond an LC Smith or Model 12-Heavy Duck gun. Its at least a pound heavier than the LC Smith Long Range. Advantage with two barrels/ triggers: instant choice of # 4s or Kent #5s or 6s with no noise. Single barrel anything-cannot accomplish that.
