Who makes a light weight accurate 22 LR pistol? Looking for something of a survival oriented emergency food supplier. Light weight is key though.

Ruger 22/45 Lite...bought one last year and have been very happy with it.

The old S&W 622 and 422 with adjustable sights were also excellent shooters.

I got the Glock 44 when they first came out. I didn't get to shoot it until a couple weeks ago. At one pound fully loaded it's pretty light and so far I'm pleased with the accuracy. This was 10 yards offhand with the first ammo I grabbed, some old Remington high velocity HP. Mostly was just doing a function check but I was well pleased with the first outing. Should make a great, lightweight 22 to have with you all the time, whether on your hip or in a pack side pocket to have available should the ptarmigan or snowshoes offer some opportunities.

Mart,

Let us know when it blows up.

The internets say they no good.

Thanks.

Mart if you get a chance to bench that little Glock, say 20-25 yards, please report back. I'm in the market for a 22 pistol and yours certainly looks accurate enough for small game and garden pests.

to me, a lightweight, tough, outdoors, survival 22lr handgun points away from a semiauto pistol. need mags to lug around and if only carry one but it goes astray or malfunctions the pistol is useless. more nooks & crannies to collect dirt and moisture. if a spring flies off during a fieldstrip, useless again.

here are my revolver suggestions in no particular order.
-ruger bearcat single action revolver: tough as nails, small. pricey.
-s&w 317 revolver: double/single action, very light but not as robust. also pricey.
-ruger wrangler single action revolver: more weighty but cheaper by well over half and still built strong.
-naa sheriff single action revolver: not too expensive, niche piece but very well made, 3.5” barrel is longer than standard naa mini barrels, small, like all naa it needs an aftermarket cv revision grip to make it pleasant in the hand.

22 plinkster really likes the S&W M&P compact 22. It's 15.9 ozs.

But @ 16oz. loaded & Marts target just about drops the mic.

My first thought would have been a 22/45 lite. At 25 ozs. it pales against the 2 above when light weight is part of the criteria.

Oops, It says pistol, not handgun, but the 8 shot, 3" adjustable sight S&W 317 is advertised at 11.7 ozs. empty. The only flies on this one is the price when compared to the top 2.
I've got an early pre lock one with the black ramp front sight, brag. It's been damn handy on several occasions.

Don't wait for his test.

Just buy one.

The SR22 is 18 ounces, has adjustable sights and you can get to a pretty decent single action trigger pull pretty easy. It's very safe to carry with the DA/SA trigger mechanism. It has a goofy backward safety that I don't use as a safety but instead as a decock. My SR22 is surprisingly accurate, very capable of 15-20 yard game getting. It is reliable with Mini Mag and CCI Standard Velocity. I have referred to it in the past as a semi auto "kit gun" and I think it serves in that role pretty well.

The S&W 317 is a nice one, if you are looking at a revolver. In semi-auto the Ruger 22/45 lite or the Walther are nice to me. Not a fan of the new Glock.

Sarge,

My plan is to give it a thorough test. I even have a set of Ransom Rest jnserts for it so I can really see what it will do. I don’t know when I’ll get time to get to the range for a while. My slope job ended abruptly with the low oil prices and the virus. Fortunately a guy in town was retiring and I stepped into his position. But it’s a five day a week job. Haven’t had one of those in over 20 years. No more two weeks on and two weeks off. Once I get settled into a routine I’ll work out some regular range days.

Thanks Mart. As well as you shot it offhand, I'm sure it would do for small game at typical woods distances here.

Typical Glock trigger?

Yes. Normal Glock trigger. 20 years ago I really never cared much for Glocks. Then I started carrying a Glock 22 as a duty gun. It grew on me. And I’m really liking the 44 so far.

Anyone shot an LCRx 3" 22lr yet? Specs say 17.3 oz.

I like the little 1 7/8" LCR but if I was really wanting accuracy it wouldn't be what I would grab. The longer sight radius and option for single action could be nice on the LCRx.
