I'll always read hunting stories. Congratulations on both bears.

I'm not into bear hunting myself except occasionally for meat, but.....

If I ever meet a dark auburn black bear in good coat, that sucker is in big trouble! smile

I have seen them along the Tanana and Yukon in Interior, and an acquaintance took a real nice spring bear that color near Livengood decades ago. With MY rifle! I'm still envious.

That's an amazing color phase on Bear #2. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

I've got a picture of a brown bear from the very south end of Admiralty that has coat that looks similar.

My son and a few buddies are running down to Windham today and coming back on Friday. Glassy calm and sunny.

I'm sure someone has a bear tag with them.

Our thought was that it kept getting passed up by other hunters who didn't get as good of a look as we did to determine it was a black bear. Especially because this was the first black bear I'd seen in this particular area. We knew they were there, but I hadn't seen one yet until this handsome boar.

Another poster here many years ago killed a CO bear a little like it, but almost no brown, and it was a hermaphrodite. That is the only one really close I have even seen a picture of. Still gawking at it!

REALLY cool looking bear! I was always under the impression that any color phase was a real rarity in SE Alaska, so you lucked out for sure!

SE has more colors than the rest of AK... they have Kermodes and glaciers.

Southcentral gets black, black, or black.

Central gets some cinnamon.

It's a fierce edge with the thread protector. I don't like shooting next to my buddy with the brake.

The GMX worked very well. Exit wound marginally bigger than entrance, but the lungs were jelly. I think you'll be happy.

Right on! Nice to have the option to unscrew the brake. I like the carbon barrel for the beach hunts My barrel doesn’t rust. Want a carbon barreled 7 RM next. Not sure what brand.

Hell's Canyon Armory. Lewiston Idaho and their Carbon Killer Barrels will build you that gun. Accurate as pphhucuk. Owner is a good man.

In the pictures of the hide laid out, it has been rinsed out thoroughly. This is how it looked going to the taxidermist.
