Saw a CZ 455 .22lr for sale at a local shop, but I can't identify the model. Doesn't look like anything I can find online. It looks like a Trainer, but doesn't have a schnabel forend. Looks similar to a Scout, but it has a full size stock and full length barrel. No checkering on the stock. Any ideas?

There's a "Standard" model, that was imported AFTER the 457 was introduced, that might be what you saw. There's one at a local shop that has been calling to me every time I visit the place. It has a "hogback" beechwood stock, iron sights, and overall, is a pretty decent rifle. (the one at the LGS has had a trigger job, and feels REALLY good. I'm already CZ-poor, or I'd probably have snagged it up by now. I just can't justify an eighth CZ rimfire rifle, although I already have a spare scope sitting in rings waiting for something to put it on.

That's an outstanding price, if you want it, better snag it up quick.

Buy that gun!

The Standard is a Lux with a basic beech stock instead of checkered walnut. Mine is an outstanding shooter. I'd say I got lucky but I hear of others having the same luck.

Just swap the stock, if you can negotiate you can probably save a few bucks too.

Nice! How's it shoot?

I'm still contemplating going back and buying the one I posted about. I kick myself because when I first saw it a month or so ago they had all rimfires $30.00 off. I was in AR buying mode so didn't pay much attention to it until recently.

It's usable as is.
But could use a trigger kit (Yodave?)

Less than 200 rounds through it.
Blazer seems decent enough. Likes SK rifle better.

I don't think it's up to the hype yet, maybe when it gets a few more down the pipe.

Looks OK, but seems off in feel. Maybe wrist thicker than I like, I dunno.

Chitcanned the factory swivels and studs, swapped to Uncle Mikes stuff.
Polished the bolt a little.

Waputi, you're already getting a CZ at a deep discount on that rifle.

Mannlicher can attest to how my 452 American shoots..

Not very picky about ammo and throws them in the same hole.

Trigger job usually needed. That is about the 'only' downside to a CZ as I see it, if you can even consider it that.

It's still there, but I'm tapped for a bit. Bought a couple of AR's over the last few weeks (Noveske and RRA, great deals on both). Between that and buying a couple of scopes and mounts for them, I gotta rebuild my stash.

Like the humpback stock for looks, but the wood seems soft, got 2 safe dings.
Kinda pissed me off.
So got a synthetic American style stock coming.
Wish they did a synth w the humpback.

Man, I know this is an old post but I hope GW bought that gun. It should be an excellent shooter. Possibly as good as mine is and I paid $400+tax for mine, the only differencce being the stock. At least put some money down on it to hold it!

Happy 4th everybody!

I'm surprised the beechwood stock seems soft, it's actually a much better stock wood than walnut, more stable and maybe a bit lighter, besides. Everywhere but the US seems to like it better than walnut, too. I have three of the beech stocks on some of my rifles, and I like it better than the synthetics.

I like the beech for looks/wood plus the euro hogback profile.
But the American synth stock I just got has the proper comb height for scope usage.

Just swapped em over. Sucks for looks though.

Would prefer a rubber pad vs plastic, and a nicer grip cap, like one from a Rem 1100 LOL. Grey diamond not white though.

Picked up two bricks of the new Rem LR subsonic.
See if it likes em.

Yeah, I've been known to swap things around, too. I've got a Scout barrelled action in a synthetic stock, and the stainless American action in a walnut American stock right now. I've got four 455s, and it's kinda fun to swap the furniture around now and then. Since all the LR magazines are interchangeable with the 452s (I've got two of them) and the 512 autoloader, I can fool around with scads of magazines and whatnot. It's always something new, if you want it thataway. I did try the barrel swap thingy when I got my first 455, but it seemed like more of a PITA than it was worth.
The 455 can be a real fun way to spend money and keep yourself busy.

My CZ455 has the synth stock now.
Just needs a trigger kit and its done.
While it may offer some experimentation/aftermarket..........once I get a rig set up the way I like, I leave it.

Get it.

You won't find more gun for the buck. That wood isn't pretty, but is pretty good for a stock.

I'd get it, reshape the stock to suit and paint.

This one is a 2500 CZ, an unusual CZ with 29" barrel. It has the same wood, looks better painted, IMO. This one has a Timney trigger.

It will almost shoot with my Cooper, which is saying something. Will outshoot a bunch of lesser .22's.

I don't think so.

It's hard to get a straight answer about that gun and how it came to be.

One version says they were built for a jobber who ended up not taking them, so CZ put them on the open market. A limited run for sure.

I got mine used at a gun show. It already had been painted red. I didn't like the red, painted it brown with Brownell's Alumahyde II, which is a really tough paint. Here it is, red and before the Timney. Careful inspection shows a slightly different trigger profile, CZ vs. Timney.

Looking over the cz-usa website, it looks like their longest barrels now, are 25.8" .

At one point, there was a 455 barrel that was 28.6" long, but that is no longer available, and not available as a barrel set, either.

CZ has a habit of stomping on their personal parts and discontinuing the better models for "something else" that is cheaper and easier to make. This is just another example of that tendency.

They show up occasionally on the used market, but don't think there are a lot of them out there.

I got this one at a gun show, traded an air rifle for it. Dealer had several new in the box, had this one he had painted. The wood was so ugly on the new ones, I took the used, painted one. He had worked on the trigger, which was pretty good. Loony me had to go Timney, which is better.

This one has "2500" stamped on the barrel. Don't know if that was the model or series or what...

It is pretty unique.

It's the Ultra Lux model, the regular "Lux" model has a 26" barrel, IIRC.

You think Paco Kelly is FOS?

I just reported what he was saying...

Maybe they still make these long barreled .22 rifles...

Maybe Flave can get one.

There IS the 457 Jaguar, it has the longer 28.6" barrel, I'd forgotten about it. They are very rare stateside, so the barrels ARE out there, if you look hard enough.

If there's anything at all you can glean from the CZ forum on RFC, it's that's you "never say never" as CZ does what CZ wants to do, and then they can undo it on whatever whim they choose.

I stopped by a local pawn shop last week, and he had three or four 455s still in stock, including the .22LR/.17HMR combo American, and one with a threaded heavy barrel in a fancy stock, and another in one of the Magnums (.22 or .17HMR). A threaded American in synthetic stock followed me home. After fooling with the little snubby Scout guns, I'm totally sold on the shorter barrels for my wants/needs. I have four (now five) of the 16.25" guns and they seem to shoot better than the longer guns, probably due to the stiffness of the barrels. They carry pretty good, too.

I have a bone stock 455 Lux with a short barrel, and its an excellent shooter.
Add another check mark to the short barrel tally.
