There were lots and lots of sirens a while ago here in Ogden, and a TV news copter overhead. First reports say a police-involved shooting, but no further details. Updates to come.
That's less than a mile from our house, and the sirens were loud and coming from all directions.

Whatever it was - and the rumors are pretty wild - it is over except for the evidence gathering. The neighborhood will be locked down during the investigation, but they are not looking for anyone. A fuller press briefing later today.

News conference summary:
A domestic violence call came in, officers responded and found a male on his front porch being uncooperative. The suspect ran inside, slammed the door and as officers approached, began firing through the door striking one officer and killing him and wounding the other (a parole officer). SWAT responded (along with numerous cars and agencies) and got five children out of the house. The suspect was later found to be dead inside the house. The wounded parole officer will recover.
The dead officer has been with the Ogden PD 15 months. No names of any involved released yet. Investigation ongoing.
Personal note: we were coming home from shopping when an Ogden police car zoomed past us doing at least 70 mph on a main street. I knew at that moment that something serious was up, much more than the usual car accident. Then right after we got home (about half a mile from the incident) a police helicopter and a news helicopter began circling the area.
This corner of Ogden is very quiet, very middle class, and populated with just regular folks. Mostly, as it turns out. I'm having a stiff drink in the officer's memory as I type this. It's not a good day for Ogden.
