270 caliber. Has redfield one piece base on it. Will be used primarily as a 250yd and closer deer hunting rifle if it were your rifle what scope would you put on it ??

I bought (2) of these to replace my VX scopes for Carolina hogs & deer. The illuminated dot is awesome. The Leupold fire dot reticle is great too.

That Burris 4x 1.5-6x40mm is an outstanding scope, I have one on my 22 Mag for calling predators.

Another dandy scope if you can find one a Sightron II 1.5-6x40 with a duplex, the Sightron has a 1" tube and is light with great glass, I sure miss being able to get more.

My nephew and coyote hunting partner is a big fan of the VX-3 1.5-5x20 and has it on his Kimber Hunter in 243 for called coyotes and still hunting mulies in the brushy canyons. His Winchester Featherweight in 22-250 wears a Leupold 2,5-8 and he's just deadly with it. My Model 70 coyote hunting rifle is in 222 Rem and has done great work with a number of scopes, Weaver 1-4x24, Meopta 1.5-6x40 and now a Kronus 1.5-6x40 with circle dot.

Leupold Dual Dovetail mounts and Leupold 3x9 fits nicely on that receiver.

If a fixed power, certainly no more than 4x.
The 2.5x8 VXIII is great but maybe a little more bulk than you need depending on what the specifics of your "250 yard and closer" deer hunting. If you sit on stand in the gray light of morning or evening, AND you do some still hunting in the daylight - that 2.5x8 is perfect. If all you do is still hunting in the woods, I'd just get a M8 4x33 or a 2.5x compact. (or the newer FX-II versions of either of those).
Of course no need for any Gucci reticle to shoot under 250 yards.

Have fun,
Rex

+1. I have a Winchester SS Classic in 270 Win with the BOSS. The barrel itself (minus the BOSS) is probably around 20" or so. On this rifle I have mounted a Meopta Meopro 6x42 with #4 reticle and have not found it lacking.

This ^^. Can't go wrong with any of first four above. Personally, I'd limit objective to 33-36mm.

I had a M70 carbine in 270, it had a really nice piece of walnut on it, it shot 150 gr nbt's with h4350 fine. Vx llc 3x9 worked fine.. What it did really great was convince me that I did not ever need a 20" barreled 270 Winchester again. MB
