Two inches of barrel doesn't guarantee anything. I currently have 4 rifles in 308. Two with 22" barrels, one at 20" and the 4th at 18". The one with the 20" barrel is the fastest. There is about 25-30 fps difference between the two with 22" barrels. The 18" gun is about 75 fps slower than the 20" rifle, but is less than 50 fps slower than the slower of the two 22" guns.

If you were to cut 2" from a barrel with a known velocity I'd expect 15-20 fps/inch with a 30-06. But when comparing different rifles all bets are off. One of my 30-06 rifles is consistently 90 fps faster than the other. Both have 22" barrels.

Most people don't really want the truth.

They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.
