You can see the machete guy out on the sidewalk confronting a bunch of the rioters. Then he chases some of the rioters and is swinging the machete at them. He looks like he is trying to hit the rioters. It wouldn't take but one good lick from a machete to kill someone. So the mob overwhelms the guy and beats him. The story says the guy, believe it or not, is alive and in "stable" condition. Hard to tell if he is protecting some particular business.
