Good morning gents! Well, yesterday turned out far better than I could have hoped for. Basically, we had a sewage leak at a local business. It was a Fish Camp/Motel. They had a leak, which we repaired on Sunday, but then the line blew apart almost immediately upon placing back in service (Force Main), so we spent the next 6 hours repairing it even better and it blew apart again. At this point, it's obvious the line is plugged, and we're not going to get it fixed today.....have a phone conference with two of the owners (you can imagine how that went) and explained that we had to shut them down entirely until we could get it repaired.

So Yesterday morning the plan was to call the locate service to have them come find all the telephone and electric lines in our path out to the roadside main, at this point, not knowing where the plug was, my thought was it would be so much faster to dig a new trench and install a new line instead of slowly following the old line and cutting it open, check for plugs, then move ahead each time.

Of course this would also mean the Electric company would also have to come down and disconnect power supply as they had buried cable over our line at some point in the past.....such is our town.

We had a quick brainstorm session yesterday morning before starting....lets check that last PVC valve in the line and see if it's broken at the stem, ie the ball isn't actually turning and it's closed. We cut it and that piece of line out and the valve was not the problem. I asked my Technician to visually inspect the interior of the line, perhaps he could see something. Lo and behold there was something blocking the line at a "Tee". There was a plastic disc that was shutting off the discharge line....appears to be part of a spring check valve that broke and was doing what it was designed to do by blocking the line! Only thing it was doing it the wrong way!

Well, we made repairs and brought the system back online much faster than we imagined possible. The business was able to get back up and running and we didn't have to get the Electric company involved, because the locate showed lines criss-crossing our path all the way out to the road!

The boys were very happy as it meant they weren't going t spend the next 2-3 days on a hot, miserable project. I was ecstatic that it was an easier repair and none of my people were injured!

Well gents, I hope all of you have a great day....enjoy each moment...and for those of you in trouble areas...please stay safe! Each man must make his own choices in life, but I will share with you a piece of wisdom my father used to tell me frequently...."It's better to be judged by 12, than carried by 6!'
