The British scientist known as Professor Lockdown has undermined the draconian policy he unleashed on the world by confessing that Britain hasn’t fared any better in tackling the disease than the laid-back Scandis. Professor Neil Ferguson probably woke up this morning breathing a massive sigh of relief because he hadn’t been ripped to shreds again in the British newspapers for this second time in just under a month – this time over his startling admission that there has been no significant difference in the levels of Covid-19 suppression when comparing the UK and Sweden. During his evidence to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee on Tuesday, he said: “They [Swedish scientists] came to a different policy conclusion based really on quite similar science. I don’t agree with it but scientifically they’re not far from scientists in any part of the world.” Sweden may have suppressed Covid-19 to the same level but WITHOUT draconian measures'Professor Lockdown' Ferguson, UK's Covid-19 czar, admits crippling restrictions MADE NO DIFFERENCE

We've had about 25% less than Sweden.

Final numbers, if we ever get accurate ones, will be interesting. Death rate may or may not reflect the relative quality of healthcare.

New Zealand went into total lockdown on March 26th for four weeks and closed our borders. We have gradually lifted the restrictions since the end of April and by next week everything should be back to normal (except the borders will remain tightly monitored).
We have not had a case of Covid 19 in the last 13 days after reaching a peak of 89 per day in early April.
22 people have died supposedly from Covid 19 in New Zealand. Compare that to Sweden (which has twice our population). They had no lockdown and have had 4,468 supposedly Covid deaths.
Lockdown works if you do it right.

He was an expert when they wanted to kill the economy, but he knows nothing now? Curious.

The average person does not have a snowball's chance of ever knowing the accurate numbers for Covid infection, nor, deaths. Numbers have been over reported, under reported, politicized, manipulated... Any chance of a rigorous quantitative analysis of the Covid data is long gone...

Was the lockdown intended to prevent the spread of Covid? I thought it was a get Trump thing.

Lockdown works if you do it right. The 'lockdown' here wasn't for stopping the spread of COVID, just to slow the spread. So it will kill the same amount of people but be spread over a longer period of time. So we were told.....

And people said that closing the economy was no big deal. We'll bounce right back.
Well, take a look at continuing unemployment numbers.
We've been mostly "open" for weeks now. Continuing numbers aren't going down. People are NOT going back to work. Businesses did NOT survive or if they did, are only back to x% not 100%.
August, when unemployment bennies run out - gonna be ugly.

I still don't know anyone that knows anyone that has or has had COVID 19.
It's an all week ordeal to get into unemployment now, usually between 300-400 phone calls to talk with a claims specialist. A lot of people are making more on unemployment than they were working their regular job and don't want to return to work. I have been getting about 3 days of forced outage work every couple weeks which is enough to screw up a week of unemployment but that's ok. I'm really not interested in having a bigger tax burden from the added money than what is necessary. This pandemic b.s. has cost me a ton of lost wages because it hit right at the beginning of our busy season and most jobs were cancelled. Hopefully they will resume with scheduled shutdowns in the fall.
Just because you're offended doesn't mean your right.
