LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Louisville Metro police officers organized a protest of their own Wednesday by walking out on Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, WAVE 3 News Troubleshooters have learned.

Exclusive video (watch in the video player above) showed hundreds of LMPD officers walking out when Fischer arrived to address them.

This happened Wednesday during roll call, as about 200 officers were getting ready for their 12-hour shifts.

The Fraternal Order of Police President Ryan Nichols told WAVE 3 News that officers do not feel supported by Fischer as they try to protect the citizens and the city from violence and looting.

“The Mayor is the leader of our city including this police department,” Nichols said. “For this to be the first time he’s tried to address his officer who have been working in these extremely treacherous conditions after he has made numerous attempts to address other entities, they feel completely disrespected and unsupported by him.”

Several officers there told WAVE 3 News the walkout was not planned.

Politicians are treating the police like dogs. If you beat, and mistreat a dog long enough, he might turn on you.

Need many, many police forces to go on strike.

The problem with police officers striking during hard times is that that ends the trust they had built up. It also leaves the town to the mercy of the bad guys. On the other hand it makes shooting the bad guys a bit more amenable.

Don’t blame them a bit but I doubt it gets his attention. At this point to even pay any heed will get him in hot water politically.

Absolute and utter shame the corner our leaders have painted themselves into.

This needs to happen in more cities. Yesterday Phoenix City council bowed to the protesters by funneling off budget money for the Phoenix PD to go to other programs that the mobs have demanded. Vote was 5-4 but any council member that stood up for Police was treated like ssit.

My son is a Phoenix PD officer so yep I am biased. Would be biased anyway. No white guilt here at all.

They should all call in sick for a few days. Then maybe the folks would elect decent leadership.

Louisville is a third black. It's going to have major problems if the police back off.

Needs to fire them. You can't let employees disrespect you like that and maintain control. Cops have gone criminally wild and must be brought back under our control.

Most police departments are overstaffed due to liberals increasing funding. Whether it is big-government liberal Republicans with their drug war nonsense or Democrats like Obama pushing for more police in communities with grants, we have many many more cops than necessary. The big risk to police themselves is people remembering how they don't actually need big brother watching them all the time.

Folks are already talking here in GA about how there was no traffic enforcement during weeks of quarantine and nothing went wrong. The riots show that police going too far actually make you less safe because they are so easily overwhelmed.
