Most of these were of Wayne Jacobson of American Hunting Rifles who came to lean some very specific operations he was not familiar with such as shaping a Mannlicher forend with a mid-length schnable and inletting and installing a steel buttplate. As you can see, it worked out well. Wayne gave us all a demonstration of his technique for installing cross bolts in bolt action stock.

Thanks for sharing. Greatly admire the skill and "art" that goes into doing that. Glad to see it being passed on.

Craftsmanship exemplified. Unfortunately it is less recognized and appreciated as time advances. I have very much enjoyed these photos.

There is a huge amount of art involved. Like what Northern Dave does with cars. Patience, the ability to "see" what you want to achieve, and the awareness to forge the path and avoid, and/or correct, the pitfalls are what enable work like this to be done. I, sadly, have none of these things, which is why I have to pay for such work. I'm just glad there are people who can do it. Great pics.

Mind you~~ All of the work shown was done by students while in class at the Seminars. Having the guidance of my 40+ years of experience, the professional "right tool for the right job", exposure to examples of high quality craftsmanship and the atmosphere of everyone striving for exceptional results allows for remarkable accomplishment. Most of these fellows had quite a bit of experience before coming and most all leave on a higher plain of understanding and ability. As the instructor, it amazes, delights and gratifies me to witness this.
When I first realized that I might create a custom rifler, there was nothing else in life I wanted to learn. Many of these student have a similar outlook.

The Metal Finishing and Rust Bluing Seminar has been rescheduled for August 17-21, 2020. There are two workbenches open. Anyone interested should contact me for more information. All of the turmoil has made scheduling difficult. If you can join us, the two commiterd students are returning having taken Stockmaking last year and are enthusiastic and good guys. Thanks for your interest~
