Found this for sale locally at our gun shop. Guy came in to sell it and my gun who owns the gun shop told me to go ahead and buy it from him. He wanted 500 bucks but I gave him more... I "think" given the convoluted Sako manufacture dates "cuneiform" it circa 1986? AV5807XX IN 338 WINCHESTER with a (gasp!) Leupold 4X. Loved the original boxes of ammo. The gent said his dad took it moose hunting in the 80s and it was in the closer ever since. One full box with 11 rounds in the second . The rifle is close to mint...

You done good! I love Sako’s! I like the L-61’s, earlier the better. I have a Sako 338 also. Serial number is two digit, possibly made the first day in 1961

It's a Sako AV(magnum length) that were coming out in the early 80's. The next step was the 75. They are seriously robust and people can confuse them with a CRF with the guide rib they have.

The caliber is engraved in cursive across the front receiver ring, pretty cool.
