I don’t understand why they used a classic American action to build an English stalking rifle, they should have just built something with classic American lines and given it an appropriate American name, either that or built a British type action for it. Agree with that. I thought the same thing when I saw that rifle. Same goes for chamberings. American actions get American chamberings. M98s get Euro chamberings. Are Lederhosen required with the M98 too? Thanks

Ruger should pay attention to that. To hell with Ruger, Jim send that picture to Jason at Lipsey's! Jerry That's not a bad idea but I'd be worried about stepping on Roger Renner's toes. He makes a specialty of modifying Rugers like this and more importantly he's a really good guy, and I'd hate to think I did anything that might encroach on his livelihood.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

Yes...but you are not allowed to enjoy them.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

Is the twist rate good for the 215 round nose? Be Well, Rustyzipper.

Yes I bought one but have yet to shoot it. The workmanship seems very good and action is slick. Once the weather allows (cooler) I will take it to the range to break in the barrel.

A month or so back, I posted that I had just received one that I had ordered but had not done anything with it other than take it out of the box and place it in a safe because the weather was in the 90’s and the humidity in the 70’s. I was waiting for some cooler weather before I took it to the range. Craigster asked if I would post my initial results after my range time with the rifle. Since my younger years, I have always lusted over the British single shots, Farquharson’s and others, but raising a family made those classics well beyond my financial ability. When Uberti announced this rifle, even though I am pushing 80 years, it was one "check" off the bucket list. We finally had some better weather with the temp in the low 80’s and the humidity in the 50’s. I had loaded up 20 rounds of new brass with 180 gr Speer SP’s and Accurate powder. The powder was AA2700 at the initial weight specified by the AA load book. These 20 rounds were for breaking in the barrel with 10 iterations of one shot and then clean barrel, followed by three shots and clean. The rifles action is silky smooth. Wood is plain with little grain showing but a nice finish. Wood fit to metal is tight and blends well. All in all, it meets all my criteria. You will notice I elected to use high rings so as to give space to cock and un--cock the hammer. I didn’t want to use an offset hammer extension. I combined the shoot once & clean with sighting-in at 100 yards. I saved the last 5 shots with 3 and clean and then 2 clean on same target. The rifle has given indication it can shoot as accurately as I can with old eyes. I have started load development now on loads suggested by the 50th Lyman book and Loaddata.com to see how small of a group I can get to. In this day and age of magnumitis and discovery of new flat shooting 6mm and 6.5mm, the 303 Brit may seem to be an anachronism but I figure it has taken more than its share of large ungulates in the British empire over its 100+ years of use. I think Uberti has done a good job of bringing a classic to market.

Uberti USA offers the 1885 Courteney Stalking Rifle. Named after the celebrated English hunter, explorer and naturalist Courteney Selous (1851-1917), this rifle gives today’s shooter the looks, feel, and usability of the turn-of-the-century British single-shots that were first taken to the British colonies—but at a fraction of the cost. The 1885 Courteney is built on the ultra-strong 1885 action. It is offered in 45/70 as well at the classic .303 British cartridge — the most used caliber in the British Empire. The action has a quarter-rib slotted for Weaver rings with a fully-adjustable shallow-V rear sight. It also comes with a traditional hooded ramp front sight and barrel-mounted sling-swivel.
