Heading West today, SD. The timing may not be perfect for dogging but the schedule works. It’s a spot where reducing numbers is the goal, so no worries about young-uns.
I’m wondering if any youngsters will be out, guess I’ll find out. Some scouting on the docket too. I’m not planning to sit at the bench and shoot, lots of moving around.

Go get 'em! Best of luck to you. Let us know how it goes out there.

Yes, all sizes are on the mounds, big, medium, & smaller targets. My gear is getting stressed, one pair of shooting sticks has a leg that won’t tighten(Primos). The safety on my custom 22-250(Rem action) is loose. I don’t have tools to take it off the stock, at this point I’ll just continue to shoot as-is. I just load one round at a time anyway.
Since this is in part a scouting trip I only brought a medium amount of ammo, we’ll be out by noon tomorrow. I don’t feel like buying factory. Time for a few beers tomorrow evening.
I like to move around with my ‘Strutter’ chair & shooting sticks.
Not to many Covid precautions out here, a few. We saw one other truck shooting, then another two bringing guns in at night. The conditions are fine, got some sun, slightly breezy. I noticed a tick. We saw one snake, once identified as NOT a rattlesnake we let it be.
The 50 grain V-Max at midlin 22-250 speeds does a number on varmints.

My gun had the Remington ‘safety snap washer’ missing, hence the loose safety. A new one is ordered.
My ‘real’ varmint trip is mid June. I think I like that time better. There were a few wet spots on the roads & low areas. They should be dried better by then.
The little ones will be a tad larger, I like that too.

Young have been out. Have fun. I'd post a picture of Sat. But this place don't like my photos.

Heading West again, next Monday, new shooters this time. Hopefully the weather cooperates. My debate is my 204 or 22-250 as backup? The 204 has older ammo that should be shot off, the 22-250 a better scope.

I would leave the 22-250 home and use the 204 . I have never been able to like the 22-250 for P dogs . Just me .
I would use a 223 as a back up.

Yeah, I have a fair amount of reloads from 2009 I should use up, the 22-250 are months fresh. I’ll be an assistant anyway, not shooting myself as much as usual.
