Last day of the Big Rock Blue Marlin tournament out of Morehead City, NC and some guys in a 35' Contender are currently in the lead. This tournament is one of the richest in the country and draws teams from all over the east coast. Most are custom sportfishers with some outboard guys giving it a go for the wahoo, tuna and dolphin categories. Pretty cool to see these guys fishing all week in a CC boat and besting million dollar sportfishers. 35' Contender is a serious boat but nowhere near the comforts of a 50-80' sportfisher like most others fishing. https://www.thebigrock.com/tournament/participants/leader-boards/

They're maintaining that lead with 1/5 of a pound too! Been a different tournament, not a 500 lbs Blue Marlin yet.

They're maintaining that lead with 1/5 of a pound too! Been a different tournament, not a 500 lbs Blue Marlin yet. Its over...second ever outboard win! The first was back in 1962 by a Dr that fished solo out of his 23' homebuilt twin outboard boat. Those guys are hardcore to fish all week without the creature comforts and ability to get out of the weather like a sportfisher. With the way the bite went the beginning of the week I was sure there would be multiple over 500. Couple of rough weather days in the middle of the week changed everything. Wonder if he shows up next year in a new 42' Contender?

I had heard they were after a big mahi when that marlin took the bait. Big Rock did them some disservice on social media, downplaying their win until public outrage caused them to change their tune. Seems Big Rock was more interested in promoting the second place finisher who just so happened to be in a Jarrett Bay boat, who was a the prime sponsor of the tourney. They still brought in almost a quarter of a million dollars, so it was a pretty good week of fishing for those guys. I still can't believe with all those fish bumping 500, that no one brought in that was over 500.
