1971 vintage Marlin 39D

Been eyeballing it for a couple weeks at our friend's shop. I was more then I wanted to spendand we haggled a couple of times, but alas I passed on it and hoped it would be there later.

Well the old man asked Charlie if I been interested in anything and surprised me last night with it.

It's fixing to earn a living smile

Looks sweet...... I've wanted one of those for a long time but the prices are always way up there. Should have got one years ago. Since October 2018 I've been using a base model Henry .22 lever. It was on sale and I couldn't resist, and while it isn't a classic like that 39D it's better than nothing. Meanwhile I'll keep my eyes open and possibly get lucky.

Wow, that looks like the twin to the one I just got from a campfire member... 1971 also.. Mint I would guess.. Shot it with open sights very good, but hard to do well at my age with those... Mine will likely wear a scope of some sort... I also have another but it has been used.. Not abused, but used.. Most of my varmint shooting will be with the older one, but the new one will get some shooting also..

My next must have Marlin lever is going to be a 1894M
Wish me luck on this as I need to find one that the seller doesn’t know how much they are going for.

I think it's pretty cool you have an "old man" that would buy you one, let alone the forethought to ask the LGS if you had a preference.

Nice rifle.

In 1972 I had a Marlin catalog and wore it out looking at the model 39 D page. Was saving, at the rate a 12 year old can save, for that rifle. Then I got a Winchester catalog and saw the new 9422. That cost Marlin a sale. I loved that 9422, but still wish I'd have had that Marlin too.

That is a nice looking 39D! I have a '71 model also, and have to say that of all the model 39 variations I own, the 39D is the best balanced and easiest to shoot of the bunch. I think you're going to love this little rifle!...Congrats!
