FYI and I have no connection to the gun, just passing it on.
Local shop in Wasilla has a pre 64 model 70 in 308. Pretty clean and priced at $875. I know they chambered for the 308 in the FW but that's the first one I have ever stumbled onto outside the online sources. Great shop and good folks to deal with. PM me and I'll provide the contact info.
Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

I didn't look at it real close but will today. I don't recall it being cut but I'll check. Oh it's been cut, pachmyr pad added and grip cap been added as well.. sn is 272xxx made in 53 or 54

You are right. It has a thin Pachmyer pad on it. Looks like a 1/4 inch maybe 3/8. It's a darn shame they put the bolt on the incorrect side.
